VENTing. When I backup in my truck I can smell exhaust cause of those vents. Good thing I am not in reverse much. Those shouldn't be letting in all that much noise.

i got a quad cab and those vents suck. they rattle like crazy. does anyone know what they are for? or if it would be ok or not to take them out or cover them up? i was thinking of taking the seats out to get to them this weekend.

they are for air escape I believe. When you pull air into the cab with the fan, it has to go somewhere...or there would be no exchange. These are supposed to be one-way flaps that only let air out, when the cabin is pressurized. If you are smelling exhaust when you back up...that's not good. One of the flaps must not be closing, or you've got your fan cranked.

If you take them out or plug them up, your fan will be working really hard (cause it has to push the air extra hard)...and you'll hear a whistling sound. That's the air escaping in all the other cracks and crevices in your truck (doors, windows, etc.).

Not sure if it will hurt in the end, but you won't get very efficient air exchange if you plug those.

ok so i need my a/c to get all the help it can get, but
is there a way to mount vents somewhere else? or
would it be ok if i just put dynamat or something
under the carpet back there and just let the dynamat
cover the vents? i did also notice that the rattling
gets worse when there are people sitting in the
backseat. thanks for the help.
