Subject: Here are the fogligts that I have... IP: Logged
Message: Well after being asked by numerous people about what type of foglights I have and what part number they are, I finally got that info for everyone. The foglights are called Optilux 2500 by Hella. I bought them @ pepboys for 50 dollars. They are very very bright with a great quality to them. I recomend them to everyone. Plus the angel eyes feature is pretty cool. As far as mounting them, I used the stock mounting bracket that the OEM foglights mount to with just a slight difference where the bolts are located. If you can change your wiper blades or check your engine oil, you should have no problem figuring out how to mount them. If there are any questions, I would be glad to help.

Message: I wanted my factory switch to turn on my foglights, not some cheap ass toggle switch so yes I just hooked the foglights up to my factory wiring and the angel eyes on a toggle switch. The kit comes with a black double wire connector so both grounds for the foglight an agel eyes can be run off of the factory ground provided for the OEM foglights. Then I just ran a seperate toggle switch that came with the kit for the power that connected to a power supply on the inside fuse box. That one wire ran to both foglights which were connected by twisting two wires together and using electrical tape. My windshield wiper L.E.D's are tapped into the switch to turn on the angel eyes also.

Message: Youngin, within the next three days I have to take my fog lights out and tighten the bolts that I used because I was in such a rush to get them in I didnt take the time to tighten them all the way. I will take some pictures for you so you can get an idea on how to do it. Otherwise I cant really explain. Just give me a little time.

Alright I have some pics posted of how this is done. For the people doing this im going to try to explain this the best I can. With the Optilux 2500 foglight kit comes alot of wires, a switch, one or two relays( I cant remember) two mounting brackets, and the 2 foglights. Most of the wires in this kit you will not use, but some you will so dont trash them. For this install your going to need to purchase four bolts and nuts. I dont know the size or length of these bolts, but make sure they arent longer than 3/4's of an inch ( i think) If you take a look at my page ( http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=340525 ) you will notice in the pictures that im using the OEM mounting bracket and one of the brackets provided with the kit. Im not very good at explaing things like this so your going to have to try and copy the picture as best as possible. A coupld of things you should know is THAT ON THE FRONT LENSE OF THE FOGLIGHT, WHEN INSTALLED THE WORD "TOP" SHOULD BE UPSIDE DOWN AND ON THE BOTTOM OF THE LENSe. It has to be this way. Make sure it is otherwise it wont work. Just make sure that where the yellow and black wires come out ( for the angel L E D ) its at the bottom. Second thing is make sure all of your bolts are tight. Dont break the plastic, but make sure they are on there good.
Now I installed a pair on my friend's 2000 R/T which ill try to get some pics up for yall and his OEM mounting brackets were diffferent from mine, but if you fool around with it, it all works. My truck is a 2001 so I dunno if they changed things around a bit ????? Who knows. As far as wiring goes, I used the factory wiring for the foglights that came with my OEM foglights. THe angel eyes are connectted together by one yellow wire on the passenger side foglight going to a duel wire connecter( included in the kit)on the drivers side foglight and then to my power source which is a wireless remote turn on. If you guys have any trouble or questions Ill try to answer them the best I can. And if you live in the LA area I could install them for you :)

Message: so did you replace the factory foglights with ones? My SXT didn't come with any fog lights, and the holes in the bumper are covered. It looks like it will be pretty easy to open the holes, but what will i have to do as far as wiring?

Message: Jeremy, on the knob that turns your headlights on, does it pull out? Meaning you know how you turn the switch to the right to turn your headlights on? Try pulling it back. If it does then that could be used to run your foglights. Check and see if there are any wires behind the bumper near the foglight holes. If not your going to have to run a switch inside your cab through the firewall to the power and foglights.

Message: Troy, turning the lenses upside down didn't affect the performance at all? I called Hella and ask them the same question, but he said they have to have Top upwards or they wouldn't work properly. Any comments? Do any holes need to be drilled when using the stock mounting bracket? Any more info on those four bolts/screws would help....
Thanks

Message: Not to be mean or anything youngin, but I dont think Hella designed these lights with the brackets provided to mount up perfectly to Dakota's OEM mounting brackets. I sat there for an hour when installing them and came up with a solution to the problem of installing them onto my dakota without having to drill any holes or make it look like crap. And it all came out very very nice for me. The whole setup looks better than OEM standards personally. As far as the top being on the bottom upside down, like I said that was the best solution to the problem. Everything looks great and works great. If you are still skeptical about the way the light will work depending on if its rightside up or not, plug it in and turn the lense 180 degrees and see if theres any difference. As far as the four bolts, I will find out for you tomorrow. When i took my lights out and adjusted them, I thought they were pointing straight. Well I guess they were a little two high, higher than my brights and probably brighter. SO when I readjust them Ill measure the lenth of the bolts.

Message: hey troy. My switch does NOT pull out. No wires near the fog light holes. Doesn't look like there are any brackets either. Do those lights come with a bracket of any kind? And do you have any idea if it will bolt on to my truck? One last thing, I'd prefer to control the lights independent from the headlights, so does it come with a toggle switch? thanks

Message: Youngin theres no standard bolt size. I had to try a couple out b4 i got the right size. Anything between 3/4 of an inch and under 1 inch is what length bolt you should be lookinng for. You need 4 of them.
