Subject: Painting the grey front bumper?

Can you paint the plastic grey front bumper, or is it easier to just buy a new front valance? The front bumper doesn't bother me, I just don't like I have chrome, billet grill, chrome,a nd then grey. Since everyone was talking about painting plastics I was wondering if this was possiable?

Yes! It can be done! But before you run off and buy paint and stuff, realize that your front valance takes more road scuffs than most people think. No matter how well you paint it, treat it, and protect it, it will begin to chip one day. I had to re-paint mine 3 years later. You have 2 choices. Masking tape it off from the rest of the Truck and park it in a garage or building where there is a minimal dust and climate controlled to some degree. OR you can opt to remove it entirely and take it somewhere you can paint it. This is a weekend project and it will take a lot of time just to remove and re-install the valance, especially without documentation on how to do it. Set aside 3 days at the very least to paint. Decide if you want to use Spray Cans or rent a pro painter gun and a air compressor. The more time you spend on it, the better it will hold up and the better it will look. I spent 2 hours painting my first one and went out driving the following day only to have it peeling off within the month. I won't make that mistake again. You can use special plastic spray paints and primers and clear coats that are sold at Murrays' and Autozone. For a Pro-Painters Spray Gun consult Sherwin Williams Automotive Paint stores or a reputable Collision shop as to where you can buy matching liquid paint. Make sure you keep the dust away while painting. Keep it dry and warm at all times. Use spot lights or heating lamps, whatever keeps its warm/hot without danger of fire or melting the plastic. If you want email me at hitmeagain@comcast.net for a very detailed list of stuff. Hope this helps you! BTW Matching valances with chrome bumbers grill is very sleek looking. I have Dak owners ask me if mine came like that from the factory and comment they love the way it looks.

I had mine done while still on the truck. I have the garnet red and they look great with the chrome bumper. I bought a grill off of Ebay, and had the guys spray that as well, thinking about a SS chrome mesh to complement the bumper now. I'll try to get some pics up.

I took both the front and rear plastic pieces off for painting and they still look great.

I painted the front and the rear pieces, too. Never did understand why the top trim level left these parts unpainted... looked real cheap. 2 years + and no peeling.

I don't want that much chrome. I have the chrome grill, the billet grille, the chrome bumper and then this grey lower bumper...I'd like to paint it to match my truck.

I like the way it looks now, can't decide if I want to keep the chrome grill or put on the color-matched grill with with mesh inserts. Decisions, decisions . . .
