Subject: 18" & 20" rim and tire questions IP: Logged
Message: I posted this on the performance board with no response so far. With a 20" rim what size tire would retain the accurate mph on the speedo on a 99 RT/CC (3.92's). On an 18"? What's the widest rim you can run on the front? On the back? Can you run 275's or bigger on the front without rubbing? Thanks for replies.

Message: The diameter of the factory 17x9 rim with 255/55-17 tire on the Dakota R/T is 28.04". I'm not sure which tires mimic that diameter (or close to it) but you can go to tire calculators such as:
http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette/tire_diameter.htm
And plug some various figures in to find the tire size you're looking for. (FYI: 255/40-20 came up very very close - 28.03)

Message: oh yah, the spedo is only off by 2mph at like 70. try this site. it's made for durangos, but the tire sizes are all the same. It calcs the size ratio and the change in spedo.
