Message: I had something similar when I had a 95 Camaro: I didn't have the lights in my mirror. Bought one off the internet, plus as much wire as the guy could get out of the car. When I went to install it, took of the head liner--plop--fell the harness. It was already there. Now I know Dakotas aren't GM vehicles, but there might be a harness already under the carpet or somewhere in the area. I'd go to a service dept. at a dealer and see if they have a wiring diagram for something like that. Might be something to look into. I think manufacturers use the same wiring for most vehicles, even if some options aren't used. I could be wrong.
