Subject: RIMS and TIRES IP: Logged
Message: Going to be purchasing some polished rims within the next few weeks, I have an awesome less-than-wholesale source for tires, but have a few questions b4 i make any commitments and get stuck with a set I cant use
The rim I am thinking of purchasing is the Eagle Alloy 058 and it can be found here http://www.eaglewheels.com/058.htm (let me know what you think)
I am really into the deep dish muscle look so I am going with either 15x8 or 15x10 or a combination therof due to price and 15 being one of the most durable and tough rims
Few questions,
How far will a 15X10 stick out with a -46mm offset and what is BSM 3 5/8? does that affect this?
Can i combine different wheel widths(front8" vs rear10") without adversely affecting my drivetrain/transfercase
What tire size should i go with without affecting overall wheel diameter. (and thus speedo or gear ratio) Not really looking for a deep tread mud tire. Stock now is 235/75/15 on i believe 15X7, and these peach cutters really spin!
Anyone had any experience with these particular rims or know of any similar styles?
Thanks for any info you guys can give me, this forum has been a very useful source of info!

"COMING VERY SOON:F&B 50mm Billet TB"
That's to big for a V6 you will kill your low end unless your putting on a SC

Message: Both of those 15x8 and the 15x10 will stick out quite a bit because of the small amount of backspacing they have. When your wheels stick out it puts extra stress on the wheel bearings. Also, it puts the tires outside the fenderwell and if you use larger tires they rub the corner of the front valence. I think it looks really red neck also but thats just my opinion. The 3 5/8ths is the amount of backspace. The more backspace the more the tires and wheels wheel be inside the fenderwells. Another words, a wheel with 5" backspace will be 1 1/8th of an inch closer to the inside of the wheel well. The factory wheels have around 5" of backspacing. American Racing makes a wheel called "baja" that comes in a 15x8 with around 5" backspacing. With that wheel you can run a 31 or 32" tire.

Message: not looking for a Large knobby mud tire, find it rather redneck too ;) looking for a lower profile racing style like maybe 295/60/15 or whatever will fit on a 10" wide rim and not change the overall stock wheel/tire diameter, will that lead to rubbing on the lower valance?
as far as sticking out, I am looking to get the fender flares, painted to match the body, currently badgless and i think it should look sweet

Message: I know you said you like the deep disk look but can I ask why? That deep dish style is a thing of the past. At least on factory wheels. Factory wheels now mostly have a positive offset and little to no dish. Up untll a few months ago I had been selling wheels and tires for 17 years. I would not sell you the Eagle 58's for your truck. It is not the right wheel. Just because it bolts on does not mean it is the correct wheel. It has the wrong offset and will stick out too much. A 15x10 will stick out way to much. It does not matter if you put on the fender flares or not. Just like a size 10 work boot might fit you and look really good, but a good sales person would not sell you them to run a marathon. I know some people will argue and disagree with me because they have them but they are not the correct wheels. The Dakota comes with a positive offset wheel for a a reason. Proper suspension geometry, handling and overall wear and tear are sacrificed when using a wheel with not enough back space. A 15x10 with a good size tire will rub like crazy without a lift. Most people that are using the Eagle wheels are doing so with a lift and they still have to trim the Valence/lower bumper. For tires, in theory a 295/60/15 would be a bout the same height as a 235/75/15 but I do not know any manufacturers that make that size. The tallest 60 series tire I know of in a 15" is a 275/60/15 and that is 28" tall and 1" shorter than what you have. I have mounted that size a a 10" wheel but it was hard to do and it looked stupid. Plus remember those are 4ply passenger car size tires with a weak sidewall and a low load rating index. You want to talk redneck, that would also look so rediculous on your 4x4. Do it once and do it right the first time. Go with a 15X8 American Racing Baja part #172-5868. They look just like the Eagle 58. For tires go with a 31X10.5R15 in the brand and style of your choice. Since you don't want a aggressive tread take a look at the Kumho STX.

Message: will that tire size leave me with the same wheel diameter so i need not do any speedo modification?
I will defer to your alleged 17 years of wheel and tire experience. BUT the "Baja" is hardly the same wheel (albiet probably the better suited for the oddly patterned Dakota boltpattern and offset)The Eagle Alloy is patterned after another rim CRAGAR 364 i was looking at but is not even available in the correct bolt pattern.
As far as the DEEP DISH, it because of the "thing of the past" that I like it, the whole MOPAR MUSCLE look is what I thought i might try, unfortunately this doesnt seem all that attainable with this dakota of mine :(
Here are clips of the three rims CRAGAR, EAGLE and BAJA and they are not even close to the same, I really like that large center hub, almost simulates the dually look.

http://www.americanracing.com/wheels/details.asp?wheelid=20&name=Baja&style=172&desc=1-piece%20alloy,%20polished§ion=S
I am also to assume that 10" in the rear and 8" in the front is not possible then as 4x4 wrote in a previous post.
Thanks for all your info, its greatly appreciated, and i do want to do it right, I am not looking to sacrifice performance for looks.

Message: Well, since you want to get nasy and question my experience I will teach you a littel more. I did not say that the Eagle and the AR wheel are the "same". I said they look alike. They are a similar style. Don't you see the similarity? The large ceter hub is for a different application. That is why it looks so different. By the way, you will not be looking different by using that wheel. Tons of people around here have them. Obviosly you like the look wheter it is the right wheel or not and seem uninterested in listening to me than go ahead and use the WRONG wheel. Also, your tires are about 29" tall and there are no 60 series tires that are that height. The largest 60 in a 15 is a 275/60/15 and they are 28" tall. By the way, why would you write alledged expeience? What do I have to gain by giving wrong advice? Why would I lie? Get what you want. Some idiot at your local tires store will sell you exactly what you want.

Message: Well Dakmike,
When you insinuate that I am lying about my experience I get defensive. Maybe you had not noticed that my response was very specific and detailed. Most importantly it was correct. When you drop bombs by making insinuations that are incorrect you should be prepared to be confronted. I noticed that you never adressed my correction of you in regards to the Eagle 58. It is funny how you question my knowlegde but when I correct you, you never acknowledge it. Now that I have aired my grievance I will try to answer your questions. I suppose you could use different size wheels in the front and rear but it would not be a good idea. How would you rotate them? You can go to the pictures section and see how many people have the Eagle wheels. I realize that the term tons is a subjective term but there certainly are quite a few that are using that style wheel. It is probaly the most popular after market wheel being used by 4x4 Dakota owners.
