Subject: MTX Thunderform? IP: Logged
Message: I wanted to know that if u get the version with the subs and amp, are the subs different from the version with just the subs alone?
Which subs are better or are they the same?
I think one of the boxes has black colored subs and the other silver? Is this right?

Message: i am pretty sure thats right, but not positive, but i do know that the black ones have different specs to match the 100 watt amp. the silver(thunder 6000s) are better in my opinion, they handle 500 watts a piece, which is what im running mine at now.i have the blue thunders that are the earlier thunder 6000s before the cosmetic change, same specs though. i got the unloaded box.

Message: Thanks, is it wiser to just get the 2 subs without the amp?
And where do u have the amp located?
Also how much does it cost?

Message: Andy,
It depends on what you are trying to accomplish...
If you want to HIT HARD and really put some "boom" in your truck, then get the "loaded box" with the regular MTX Thunder 6000s and add a good amp (good luck on finding a good location to mount it... I know you can do it, but there will be a sacrifice somewhere...) I would recommend going with an MTX "D" Class amp, but you would have to make that decision for yourself...
If you just want a "clean sound" to compliment your stock system... not "too boomy" but nice sounding, then the "amped version" is pretty nice... especially since you don't have to buy another amp to make them work... The little 100 Watt amp does a fairly good job moving the "high efficiency" speakers and since the amp is built into the Thunderform box, you don't have to worry about placement.
Now granted, any system with a separate amplifier is gonna sound alot better and louder.. however, since I wasn't trying to make my Dak a ground pounder, I opted for the amped version and so far, I am pleased with them...
They give just enough "bottom" to make the stock system "passable" (I even have the "Infinity upgrade system" and it SUCKS from stock...) Either way, I guess you have to ask yourself... "What am I trying to accomplish?" Once you answer that question, then your path shall be made clear...
Good luck on your decision!!!

Message: andy i have an mtx thunder series 500watt amp under the passenger seat. it has never overheated, then again the amp was almost $400 so you get what you pay for, i live in fl. so temp is fairly hot, i drove with my friends to s. carolina from florida with the system bumping the whole time, and never overheated. i got my unloaded box from nexxon(not too good customer service or communication) for 195 shipped. the amp from circuit city and subs off of ebay, brand new on closeout cause they were last years model and the only difference from the thunder 6000s and my blue thunders is the cosmetics, both have silver plastic but one says thunder 6000 and the ohter blue thunder, same specs. just do some shopping around and research.
good luck

Message: Has anyone put a different brand speaker in their thunderform box. For example, 2 10" Rockford Fosgate HE2's. I put my MTX amp under the passenger seat also and it has never overheated until I added an additional amp for my 6.5's. That amp is a Rockford Fosgate 400.4a which sounds very clean. I was pulling too much from the battery so I had to add a punch capacitor. I still don't know why my mtx amp is overheating. Anyways I built my own box out of mdf board and it sounds great but it takes up my rear seat. Also which models comes without the speakers-- the unloaded.

Message: I've searched this forum looking for someone in the same situation as I, to no avail, so I'm trying to see if anyone can give me some insight. I've got the Infinity stock system and I'm putting in 2 10" Kicker CompVR subs in the T-form box. I don't have an amp picked out yet, but I need some ideas on how I can set this up still using the stock CD/cassette head unit (I know many of you cringe at the thought of using the stock receiver, but I really don't want to put out any more money than I have to right now). I know from reading other posts that the stock unit doesn't have RCA outs. Is there a way I can take the leads going to the stock amp and reroute them to a crossover, then run my highs to the stock amp and the lows to my sub amp? Let me know what you think. I'm pretty illiterate when it comes to audio components, so I may be going in the total wrong direction. Plus, if anyone has any suggestions on a good low profile amp that will fit under the passenger seat to use to drive my subs that will fit under the passenger seat, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
Matt

Message: I'm currently using the T-Form enclosure with another brand of subs. I purchased the unloaded one and got 2 soundstream spl 10's, I did have to do a VERY minor reshape on one side of the box to allow for the larger magnet, other than that they fit really well. I'm currently pushing them with a soundstream 501/ amp and though it may of been a bit pricier than the mtx setup I'm extremely pleased. Hope this helps
