Subject: V6 Decal Removal. I need Help Please. IP: Logged
Message: I am planning on removing the V6 Emblem on the front wheel panel of my 1997 Dakota. I have heard that the older 97 models have their V6 engine decals mounted using 2 prongs that are inserted into the fender. IF I remove my Engine V6 sticker will it leave holes? Or is it just stuck on there with adhesive? I don't want there to be holes in my fender, so i'd like to know this before i even begin to use solvent. Thank you!

Your v6 badges will have two pins. The only way to get rid of the holes is to cover them with another decal/badge or use body filler.

Message: Here's how I took my emblems off:
Use fishing line (i just happened to have some) and floss behind the emblem on all 4 sides as much as possible. That will cut through the adhesive. Then pull the emblem off with your hands. This will leave some adhesive on the truck. Get some 3M Adhesive remover and follow the directions to remove the remaining adhesive from the paint. Then you're good to go. Be sure to wash the area when you're done. To make it look like the emblems were never there, I used some Meguiar's swirl remover/cleaner, polish, and wax. In the end all you see is two small holes, which is barely noticable on my black Dakota. I'll eventually get them filled in when I get my handles shaved.

Message: GO TO AUTOMOTIVE PAINT SUPPLY STORE AND BUY A DECAL ERASER TOOL. UNDER $25.OO ! IT IS A 2.5" CIRCLE ERASER THAT ATTACHES TO A DRILL AND RUBS THE DECAL AND TRAPS THE ADHESIVE IN THE SHAVINGS.

Message: Sorry Mark, you misunderstood me. The object that I would like to remove is the hard plastic emblem on the front fender displaying the V6 Magnum logo. Thanks to the rest of you for your input, I appreciate it. You guys saved me a huge headache and a lot of aggravation. I've decided to refrain from removing the emblem due to the fact I'm not very good with paints, and I will talk with a professional before doing something that will leave holes. This board is great thanks a bunch!

Message: If you are going to get the emblems filled in you might as well shave the door handles and antenna too.
