Subject: paint on bedliners IP: Logged
Message: I recently saw a do-it-yourself paint on bedliner at Pep-Boys. They also have the product in spray cans. Has anyone tried this method vs professional Rhino liners etc? The cost would be $75 vs $350.
Thanks

Message: I've seen this paint on liner but I don't think it really would stand up to constant use. Far too thin and it looks like it will start peeling off.I opted for a tuff liner instead and so far it's been great although I really would like a sprayed on liner, but it is just too costly for my taste.

Message: I have installed the roll on type from Wally mart, and so far so good. Yes it does go on thin, that is way you put on two coats. The only differance I have between roll on and spray on is the amount of product that is sprayed from machines. If you want to save yourself a few bucks, and dont mind the sanding labor, than roll on is the choice. Note: even with one coat it is holding up, I just finished hauling cinderblock, and the liner is still there..

I have this same liner, it holds up fine I had pretty much everything back there, do yourself a favor and buy an extra can to roll on also. And make sure you clean/dry the bed very well after sanding, if not, that's when you might run into problems with dirt/moisture being trapped under and causing chipping.

Message: I HAD a hurculiner that me and my father put on my truck. Hated it. It lost its glossyness, little bubles everywhere, whenever I washed it looked like it had soap in it.... it was horrible. I was in an accident and insurance paid for a new spray on..... MUUUUUUUCH better. None of that stuff is happening on my new spray on.

Message: BlackDak20,
I can't comment on the "hurculiner" as a product, but how did you apply it, with a roller?
I don't know much about the liners, but doing epoxy flooring, I know how epoxy can and can't be laid. First off the coating has to be done in multiple thin layers (line-x is actually done in 3 layers) to allow the gas to "flash-off". If you used a roller, the texture of the roller, will pull the material away from the bed in the areas of the hole in the roller. These gaps will cause the space between the truck and liner to fill with the epoxy gas, since it can't go anywhere else, it bubbles up and needs to be popped and recoated in these areas. So it may not have been the liner itself, but more the application thickness, temperature (hot=problems) and the prep.
