Message: Sure you can paint it just start with a 180 -220 grit sandpaper and sand until all gloss is gone in the chrome. Then step up in grit until around 600 and clean really well. The paint should hold fine.

Message: A different opinion:
It didn't work for me. I prepped in much the same way the grille on my S-10, and shot it with four coats of urethane, but it was cracking inside of a month, and basically destroyed in two years. I just bought a factory-painted grille to replace my SLT "bright" one. $71.00 on eBay, instead of $298.00 from DC.
Keep in mind that the front of a truck endures a mighty amount of wind pressure as well as "road-crap", so do yourself a favor and at least investigate finding a painted grille. Besides.... I'll be putting my brand-new "bright" grille on eBay soon, and I'll bet I can get at least a $71.00 return. Good luck.

Message: Well, here is my opinion...If you are set on doing this, Give it a shot..Paint it up and if it dont hold up, then go buy one..Its worth a try I say.

Message: THE ONLY REAL WAY TO PAINT CHROME IS TO HAVE A POWDERCOAT SHOP SAND BLAST IT AND THEN POWDER COAT WITH THE CLOSEST COLOR THEY HAVE. POWDER COAT IS A BAKE ON PLASTIC COATING AND WILL NOT WORK ON A PLASTIC GRILLE. YOU WILL NEED TO SCUFF THE POWDERCOAT (IF IT DOES NOT MATCH)AND SHOOT IT TO MATCH. HOWEVER A LOT OF THE COLORS ARE REALLY CLOSE THESE DAYS. I DO HAVE THE FACTORY SPORT FRONT COVER AND BACK BUMPER OFF MY 2001 PROJECT VEHICLE IF ANY ONE IS INTERESTED AT $100 EACH

Message: Years ago I had some wheels on a jeep that I wanted to paint. I could not get the paint to stay on the chrome. Then a Old School hotrodder told me to wash the chrome down good with vinegar first, rinse, dry then prime &paint! It worked for me! I guess the acid in the vinegar etches the chrome so the paint will stick. hope this helps.....
