Message: I tried searching for this topic, but my eye's started to go crossed from all of the looking. So I gave up and wanted to just ask the question.
I remember a way's back that someone took those chrome door trim kits and used them on the factory bars that run horizontally accross our grills. I was wondering if anybody has done this. If so how did it look and do you have any pictures? I just want to make sure it doesn't look cheesy.

I've done it to my 01 slt+ looks nice I could only find the 30" strips but if you can find it in a 20' or 25' roll it would be a little cheaper.
I don't have a photo right now but I'll see if I can get you one, trucks a little dirty right now.

Message: That does look pretty sweet. If that's the way it looks and it's just that door trim, I don't think I'll need any more pictures. Thanks for the 411. Do you have any tips or suggestions on putting them on? I'm assuming you just measure them out, cut 'em if needed, peel off the backing, and slap 'em on. But I like that look. I've got the chrome grill and I think getting a full insert would be a tad bit too much chrome for my truck up front. Thanks again. If and when I do it, I'll post some pics.

The only trick is make sure you keep the same gap at the ends or when you get back to look at it will look a little odd.

Message: Yeah, I had thought about that. I can't remember exactly how far over the bars go, so I didn't know if I should leave a gap or take them all the way over to the edge of the trim. I guess I'll leave a little gap.
Any particular brand of trim that you reccomend? Or is the trim that you can pick up at Wal-Mart just as good as the stuff you can get from Advanced Auto and places like that?
Thanks again,
Steve

It worked best to leave a gap, the fins have a sharp turn on the ends and you would be left with nothing to hold the edgeing if you went to the grill frame.
I had to get 4 pks. of the door edge strips to have enough to do mine (from AutoZone), I later seen a roll (20'-25')at PepBoys for less than I got the pks. for.
Did you go to knobbymans home page there are more photos there.
If you need any close-ups or anything it's no problem I have a digital camera.

Message: Thanks for all of the info guys. And yeah, when I looked at knobbyman's profile I went to his homepage and looked. It looked sad to see that pretty pickup sitting in the dealership's parking lot. But we all know about the horror stories with that truck. I'm gonna have to hold off on doing this until I go to visit my family. It's still a little chilly here and back home we've got a barn that we keep all of the farm equipment in. I think I'll be heading back the 15th of this month. I've got a digi cam too and I'll have to take some pictures and post 'em. I know it's not that complicated of an install, but heck I had questions so maybe somebody else does to.
Thanks again for all the info guys.
