Message: get the Street Scene speed grill & valance grill. It's pricy but WELL worth it. at first, i made my own grill for my R/T but it looked bad and was a pain in the ass. so i spent the money to get the Speed grill.
Installing wasnt too bad. It comes with clamps, so all u do is put the grill where its spot it and clamp it on. no drilling or screwing is required. it comes w/ directions so u dont have to stress about it.
Go with the speed grill!!!

Message: I had the SS Grill on my '99 Dakota. Looked good, but cost an arm and a leg. Now with my '02 I went the homemade route and it cost me all of $13 for the supplies.
I just followed the directions on this website. Took me a couple hours to do it but it was worth it. I like it better then my old SS grill because the mesh is finer with the gutter guard. But hey, to each his own.

Message: 01BamaDak, that's not my site. I ran across it on this site. It's interesting because I have a Silver QC and I wasn't sure how it would look, but it came out great. I do think it looks a lot better on the darker Daks, though.

Message: I have a silver Dak as well. I am afraid to buy a ss grill because it might not look right. Has anybody painted their ss grill black? How does the brushed alum. grill look on a silver dak? It looks ok in pictures, but how does it look in person? be honest please

Message: I want to buy one, but how do you you get to the latch to pop you hood open? It seems like it would block it

Message: Bud, it looks fine trust me. I, too, was aprehensive at first, but think about it. The truck is silver, but the radiator/AC whatever it is directly behind the grill is black, so it contrasts great with the silver of the grill, regardless of the trucks color. Now, slap a black grill on and you probably won't even see it because it'll be the same color as the background (radiator/AC whatever).
Joe, there are several ways to open the hood. Back before I did the homemade grill on my '02, I had a SS Grill on my '99 and it came with a relocater kit. Additionally, the hood could still be opened by using a screwdriver, pen etc to pop the latch, as those things are skinnier than your finger (heck you may even be able to get a pinky in there).
For the homemade gutter guard, which is very fine woven, I simply followed the instructions on that website (http://www.chimptopia.com/pimptopia/grille.html and click a couple pages past the intro). About $2 in material will do it. First, drill a small hole in the hood latch. Second, thread a length of bicycle cable through the hole and use crimp caps to secure it. Zip tie some vynil tubing to the inside of the grill and thread the cable through that and out the bottom. Make sure the cable hangs lower than the grill then make a loop out of the end and crimp it. Ta da, your own homemade relocater for about $1-$2. When you pop the hood from inside the truck, the loop you formed should be hanging down enough for you to get a finger in it and give it a good tug, which will drag the hood latch down and open your hood.
The relocater kit that comes with the SS Grill is the exact same thing, just with fancier materials.

Message: The Dude is right. The SS grill comes with a hood relocation latch. However, I'm lazy and still haven't put mine on yet and am using a screwdriver to open it.
If you are wondering how the SS grill looks in black, here is a pic of a Dakota with one.
