I'm just curious about your insurance. If your truck came originally with air bags and they aren't being replaced, will your ins. company pay up if someone is injured due to the airbags not being there. Also are you opening yourself up to a lawsuit if a passenger is injured ??
I installed Ram's head tail light covers on my truck and was told by a police sergeant I could be held liable if someone hit me from behind because I had altered a safety device..the brake lights. I removed them.
Something you may want to check into.

Message: good news!!!!! i just replaced the wheel in my 98 with an older grant gt wheel. the process is pretty easy, but you do lose the horn and the self canceling feature on your turn signals.
after much studying, i discovered that a adaptor hub from a chevy s-10 is the same size splines. you have to remove the airbag (duh), and the clockspring mechanism. you have to pull the shroud off of the column to remove the clockspring...unplug the wire harness from the clockspring, and i just cut the horn wires because there is no plug at this end. after the clockspring is off, put the column back together, and the adaptor hub will slide right on (make sure the wheels are straight, and that the steering wheel is straight). the hub slides just into the column trim and leaves about a 1/4 inch gap all around. an apc billet adaptor is slightly larger and will reduce the gap to about 1/16 inch. thats all there is to it...custom wheel in no time flat!!! oh by the way, make sure to remove the neg. battery cably before you start. after the battery is disconnected, let the truck sit for about 10 min. so that the srs system will be completely discharged!!!!!

Message: oh yeah, i almost forgot...i just figured out how to fix the self cancelling thing. after you get the hub aligned, mark its position on the column, and mark the position of the self cancelling switches onto the hub. remove the hub, and drill and tap a 4/40 hole centered between the marks on the hub. then thread a 4/40 set screw into the hole, and adjust the length so that it will trip the switches, but not hangup anywhere else.
have fun!!!!!!!!!!!
