Message: I am guessing the 2 way is a woofer and tweeter and the 3 way is a woofer, tweeter and a really small "mid"

Message: Your wright Kraw.Plus the 3way speaker will sound clearer than the 2way.Mostly because of the extra speaker but most of the time a 3way will hold 30 to 50 watts extra which helps if you want to put a small amp on them.

Message: I gotta disagree with you Jason. Most of the time you are better off with a two way speaker. One, the crossover is less complicated, so you can afford better capacitors, etc. Two, they image better, in part due to the crossover differences. Three, generally you get better drivers with a two way system. Either way, the way to go is separates, not a coaxial driver, although there are some decent (but not great coaxs).
The best speakers I've heard are the Polk/Momo searates.

Message: In my 87 Dakota I have 6.5 Pioneer 3-way speakers in the doors.
Woofer-mid range-tweeter. Woofer-produces low sounds like the low notes on a synthesiser can only make. Mid range- is a man's voice, tweeter- high notes like symbols, bells, guitar notes and high pitch womens voice. In the back I have Pioneer 4-way 6x9s in seperate boxes powered by a 135x2 amp. These speakers can handle 200w a piece.
4-way speakers have: woofer-mid range-tweeter-super tweeter for the ultra high notes up to 20,000 htz.
Think about it, the more tweeters/mid range a speaker has, the higher the power rating it can handle split the 135w between 4 components- woofer- 60w mid range-30w, tweeter-25w, super tweeter-20w= 135watts.

Message: well we got off topic a little from the original question.... the difference between 2-way and 3-way speakers is NOT necessairly power handling or how they image etc... it is 2 speakers or 3 speakers in a bundle
2-way : midrange-woofer and a midrange-tweeter
3-way : woofer midrange and tweeter
whichever u purchase is all dependand on the sound you are looking for.
if you purchase a good quality 2 way it will definately outperform a lower quality 3 way or separates.
separates have a low/mid sub woofer and separate mid/high tweeter which allows you to position your "image" of sound anywhere you want just by positioning your tweeter in a strategic location
hope that helps in clairifying your question and deliema a bit

Message: Hey -
I would definetely get either Kicker, Pioneer, or Kenwood. Kicker would be my first choice, and it doesn't matter if you get 2 way or 3 way you won't be able to hear a big difference. Go to www. crutchfield.com and find some that will fit your truck.

Message: As a registered BOSE dealer I have a few choices for car audio speakers other than bose obviously.
Best speaker for systems with Subwoofer -
Pioneer - makes some of the finest 3 way and 4 way speakers I have ever heard. Some crisp clear highs with perfect clarity and a excellent signal to noise ratio with a good db rating. If properly configured you can make 4 6 1/2's enclose your ears with what seems like surround sound. Use some base blockers or use the filters in your reciever to cut out the low band from your door speakers, this saves money on a crossover.
Without Subwoofer -
Go with 6x9 or 6 1/2 round, 2 way or 3 way Kenwood or Infiniti Kappa's. They drive hard and smack out some decent highs. Please keep in mind that this system won't win awards but is good for those with a 4 channel amp and no room for a sub.

Message: Hey,
I have a 1997 Jeep TJ...
I am getting a Clarion DXZ 535 Deck (52wattx4) and I have 4x6" in the front and 6x9" speakers in my sound bar. I am getting new speakers for the whole thing, but I'm not sure which ones to get and whether to get a sub also...
Any opinions??
