Message: Sam,
What you need to do is take a piece of dental floss and use it as a saw of sorts to slice between the emblem and the adhesive - the object here is to remove the emblem first then work on the adhesive. Begin at the top and just wiggle the floss through the adhesive while pulling down, once you have actually begun the removal, you can start to pull towards you a bit too - eventually you will pull the remainder of the decal off. Once off, then grab your GF's hair dryer and begin softening and working as much of the remainder of the adhesive off as possible. Then you have several options to remove the rest of the adhesive residue - my personal choice is 3M Adhesive Remover (WalMart) and patiently use that to remove the rest of the residue. Once off make sure to wash the area well and then put a nice even coat of wax on it. Goodluck - this should work for you.
