Subject: MTX Thunderform Box - your opinon
IP: Logged

Message:
Hello,

I just bought a 2001 dak about a month ago and have been looking for a sub enclosure that wouldn't take up my rear seats. What are your opinions on the mtx thunderform box? Is it worth it? Does it sound good? Where can i get one and how much do they run?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for any help.

I would suggest it. I did not loose any space due to a box or anything. The only way you can tell is the seats are at a little bit of a incline. The instilation was a little of a pain due to having to remove everything in the rear. I have the amped version. It sounds great. I think it is worth the money. What ever you do stay away from Nexxon.com! If you want more info I can give ya some about the amp and subs.

jl audio also makes a box similar to the mtx box. i prefer jl spekers to mtx, and would venture to guess that they would make a better enclosure as well. if you do go with the mtx box, you might want to only get the enclosure, and shop around for different subs. you could certainly put a higher quality sub in that box and get improved results (Infinity, MB Quart, Kicker). i would deffinately not purchase the MTX amp that comes along with that box, again any amp would work with the box and many offer cleaner power with less distortion (precision power, soundstream..)
good luck

jl audios box gives you room for 8 inch subs,
mtx's gives you room for 10's.

Well if you want the "unloaded" version, I suggest you go here Digital Wavez - $175 plus shipping

However, the best bargain would be to go with the loaded box with MTX 6000s in it. Here is the link to it for $269.95

Personally, I have the amped version... with a stock radio setup. It's not super bass heavy, but it does compliment the stock Infinity system that comes in the Dak.

If you want extreme bass, then this is definitely not the way to go, but if you want a nice clean sound, then the Thunderform (including the amped version) is a good way to go.

i got an unloaded thunderform, then i bought some brand new, clearance MTX Blue Thunder's, they are the same specs as the 10inch thunder 6000's. as for sound quality i have friend with a dak also and he has a jl stealthbox, which he also custom installed a 10. so he as an 8 and a 10, it sounds like crap, he agrees and wishes he had the 2 10s in the mtx box like me. JL does make some killer subs, just not the ones that come in that box, they are also pretty expensive. i have a 500watt mtx amp, which is mounted under the passenger seat, he has a lightning audio 450 watt amp under the passenger seat as well. o yeah as for installation goes it is fairly easy. a friend an I installed it in mine and we are both 17. you dont have to take all the panels out like the instructions say, well we didnt, i also had some dynamat done at a local audio shop and they said that we did a professional looking job, with no wires exposed and everything neatly tucked in.

one more thing, i found that you have to wrap the jack and the tools in some sort of towel or something, because my tools and jack rattled so much, also if you shut the doors and close the windows and stand outside you can hear the bottom of the truck rattle, i havent figured out a way to avoid that yet so if anyone has any ideas that would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

do a search for mtx under the style forum, and
somewhere it said something about
tightening up some loose bolts, i remember
reading it a little while ago, something about a
few screws that are loose under the bed
needed to be tightened a little bit.

Your one man effort to slander Nexxon is not working. We have been in business for 5 years and last month was a record for sales. You say you have an amplified box and it sounds good and is worth the money. Is this the box you bought from Nexxon?

You put your amp under the passenger seat -- I want to use a MTX 6500D ammp and put it under the passenger seat. Is this the amp you used? It looks like a tight fit. Any problems with the installation? How did you attach the amp to truck? Also, any tips on fishing the power line to the battery?

I just put my T-form in last weekend. Personally, I think it sounds great for what you're getting; you get two 10" subs that completely disappear from sight and are out of the way. Now its not competition bass, but it is way more than I expected from MTX T6000's...and I'm only powering them with an MTX 4250D w/ EBC. It gives a nice clean low end to stereo. I think the 6500D is better for the job though, and it will fit under the passenger seat, its the same size as the 4-ch I have under there now. Yep, I give T-form two thumbs up.

The thunderform box sounds really good for being made by mtx, they say the amp is only 100 watts but it sounds like a lot more. Got mine from nexxon for a great price

wait!!!! before you mount an amp under your pasenger seat you should do a little personal research. When I did my own i found the amped and loaded box was the way to go for me, what I found was this. I live in Wisconsin and for most of the year rain, snow, mud, or sand is a common occurence on my floor and when someone sits in the back the only place for their feet to go is under the seat. What I did was kept an eye on what the floor under that seat look like after an average weekend, and what i found was a good place not to put anything expensive.
hope this helps
