Subject: Shift Knob Replacement IP: Logged
Message: I hat a 2001 Dakota Quad Cab with a manual trans. I recently got a shift knob for a present and am having a tough time taking off the old one. It doens't want to unscrew and I can't find a screw on the ball itself. Please help if you know what I have to do.

Message: I would think it would have to unscrew.try putting a rag or something around it and put some channel locks on it and remember righty tighty lefty loosy.i dotn have a manual so i wouldnt know but i know my 4x4 shifter knob was a bit@# to get off

Message: The center piece on shift knob pries out. Under there is a nut that you have to remove (I think 15mm) and then the knob will unscrew.

Message: my 2000 knob was a mother to remove.i had to put the lever in a vise a use channel locks to remove.then i bought a hurst shifter,and did all that for nothing.i put a rag on the knob,it was so hard to move i still scratch the plastic.
