Message: Well, it's somewhat of a PITA. You'll have to remove the instrument pod (yes, the whole thing). You'll have to remove the (Torx) fasteners, disconnect the shifter (auto) indicator linkage, pop out the facia panels (they have plastic snap clips), pull out the instrument pod (more screws) - at the same time, disconnect the block electrical connector.
While you're in there, you might want to dim down the indicator light bulbs (especially the hi-beam one). Get some acrylic paint (craft stores have it) and paint the light bulbs the colors of your choice - remember, they all shine through colored lenses, so calculate the final color before painting. If you use the same colors as the original (hi-beam: blue, cruise: green, lo-fuel: yellow, etc.), they will dim down pretty nicely; if you mix color (I used red in the hi-beam to get purple), that can be very cool. Experiment with the amount of paint you use. The result is a nice, dimmer display for night driving. Don't forget that when you paint bulbs (heat is not an issue), they are dimmer in daylight and may be more difficult to see then.

1. Spend the money and get a proper interior panel remover tool; it looks like a flat fork with no sharp edges.
2. Spring for a good manual, too (I got both the Haynes and big Chilton books); follow the instructions in the book.
