I got a 92 dakota sport, 3.9l, I was wondering if it was possible to supercharge it and if it's really even worth it. Has anyone ever done it with a gen II?
How hard is it to install?

I plan on supercharging my '92 dak using a kit from vortech, but i have the 5.2L so i don't know if the same kit will work with yours. something for you to look into though.

Yes the kit from the 5.2 can be adapted to fit the 3.9 I plan doing this for my 92 also. The install isn't that hard its just a long process just take your time and there should't be any problems. Bernd's 3.9 was Supercharged.

What kinda of HP Torq numbers are we talkin here? Cant be more than about 240 Hp or so right. With that, Id swap in a 318 or a new mag, or maybe even save up and go all out with a crate Hemi!!! I just have a hard time justifing a couple thousand bucks on an engine running only what a stock V8 pumps outs. Whats the deal guys. thanks.

Well I know that the 92 3.9l magnums put out around 180 hp and around 225 ft lb. I personally have no knowledge abour supercharging and dont know what kind of gains you would get. I know that there is a newer dakota and the guy turbo charged it and he says that it can beat an r/t would a s/c do the same?

Thank you for the link, b1llyw. What are some other less expensive ways to gain some power? I've heard you can bypass the a/c and power steering pulleys and get a few more hp. I know doing this would require a shorter belt.

Well to gain a few HP what I did was add the K&N Fuel injection performance kit, it gave it some accel and better top speed accel. I then put a dynomax turbo muffler on (2 3/4 in) Then I cut my restrictive cat off and just put a straight pipe. This gave it an amazing sound and also made the HP jump. Right now I am probably some wheres about 220-225 HP.
Lets keep finding ways to make the Hp jump!!!

Isn't it illegal to remove the cat for street use? And it also blackens the rear of the vehicle, right?

Hi again, yeah to all that but what about the numbers??? Al those mods are relatively cheep but only provide a small amount of HP. Im talkin hooken up 75, 100 Hp. To get us v6er actually something to be proud of. You Mag guys have alot more under your hoods than us premag V6s do. It had 125hp stock more than 115K and 13 years ago. That terrible for a 3.9L engine. I NEED MORE POWER!!! Next thing on the list is gears. Im thinking 4.10s. Well later.

In new york state it is illegal to remove the cat but hey what the hell for the sound and performance its worth it but i know someone who does state inspections so i am all set. also my truck is black so i havent noticed any blackend rear end

its a federal law that you cannot remove a properly functioning cat, but i live in florida, so they will never know, because florida has no emissions testing anymore
