Subject: will 23's fit?
IP: Logged

Message:
ok ive tried posting my question in the lowered dakotas forum with no results, so ima ask yall here in the custom forum to see if anyone can help me. i have a 99 reg. cab dakota with a 5/7 drop on 18's and im wantin to step up to a bigger wheel, and im wondering if 23's will fit. pirelli makes a 305/35 23 thats gonna be roughly 31.54 inches tall, and with that diameter i'll have to raise my truck up 5 inches (so basically remove my drop), but my question is, with a 305mm wide tire, will they be too wide up front and rub the fenders when i turn the wheel? if not, then what kind of offset will i be looking at? any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

adam

it should work without any problems if you put fabtechs 2in lift coils on the front

the only way ur goin to pull it off,
1. wheel flares(if u don't have them)
2. u might be able to drop a tad(1-2 max)
3. wheel well shells may rub, mine touch, but don't really rub at all
4. BUMPSTOPS-they have to be just right, to give the travel, yet just not enough to hit the flares
5. and most of all, i think u need a narrower tire. 285-295 series max. the 305 is wide even with a far outside offset.
at least in my opinion i would rather have full turnin ratius and could hit a bump. knowin that it's goin to pull it off.. let me know though i wanna see it, i would of , but just couldn't make it work with my set up. and i checked.

damn tony, the 305/35 is lowest profile 23 available right now, theres a 285/40 but im afraid thatd be too tall of a sidewall coz those are gonna be about 32.12" tall....i dont want my truck to look like a monster truck....i guess 23's are a wild goose chase, but thanks for all the help fellas....22's will still look nice....it wont be until about april til i can get it all done, but yall will be the first to know when im finished.

ok, ive checked with tire.com and they said the lowest profile 23 is the 305/35.....and the 285/40 is just narrow enough to fit, but itll stick up 16 inches from the center of the hub which means my truck will have to go back close to stock height, but with that tire, 23's will work, but i dont think ima like that tall of a sidewall.....any comments?

yea it may work, main thing is goin to have to have the rims drilled to fit, then u may have pretty good rubbin on the inner shell of the well. mine rub very slightly, but goin bigger like that may cause problems. nothin a sled won't fix-ha. Eitherway man i want to see them on the truck so let me know. u'll have me beat.

well i was actually thinkin about goin with adapters whether i got 22's or 23's or even doin some sort of axle swap coz i know people swap out the first gen dakota axles with 2nd and 3rd gen to get the 5 lug bolt pattern, my only question with that is i dont know if that 5 lug is an odd pattern or if its universal....if its universal then thered be no problem gettin wheels.
