 Subject: Projector/Diamond Headlights?

Does anyone know of any company (APC, etc..) that is making replacment projector/diamond clear headlights for Gen III Dakotas?
Seems silly that you can buy clear corners and "diamond" clear corners, but I haven't found anyone that makes projector/diamond headlights. Are they still a work in progress?

SinCityR/T and I have been e-mailing APC about this for moths now, all we get are empty promises. All I can say is shoot APC an e-mail, tell them you won't buy their poduct until they make a matching headlight lens, and see where you get.

I don't know, it pisses me off too. I e-mailed them, and they told me in the next few months, I figured by then, I would be able to buy them. But the lame @sses dropped the ball and although they do clean up the front end, you can tell it's definitely aftermarket.
The thing I don't like about these, is that unless you put in clear bulbs or LED's the mirror reflector on the inside, back wall of the lens reflects off the bulb, even when it's off it still looks like a stock orange lens.
check out this pic, you'll see what I mean. inside bulb is clear/stock the middle/outside is amber.

I'm not sure how well you've looked into them, but if your state requires amber turn signals, when you buy these reflectors you'll have to buy an extra set of 3157's and a set of 168's. Those morons only put in one set of amber 3157's. *thanks APC*

I spoke with APC's president face to face at SEMA and he claimed that APC would start working on producing some sort of clear headlight for the Gen III Dakota/Durango. I'm not sure whether they'll be doing just a diamond clear headlamp or whether it will be a projector bulb. It does take a number of months to get something like this through DOT inspections, molding, testing, production, etc.
He said 4-6 months... we'll see.

Hay guys, I got a couple of emails asking about these so I thought I'd pop on over and give you the strait scoop.
Yes we are designing clear headlights for the Dakota and Durango. They will go very nicely with the Euro and Diamond clear corners currently out there. We have three designs in the works at the moment. Once we make it through the design faze about the first week of Jan we will be about 6 weeks from having a done deal for you.
The wait is over for a nice modern front end for D’s and Dak’s
The only catch could be DOT. We are getting approval and we will see how long they take to get it done. If they are quick we will be quick.
I'll make the same offer to you all that I made to the members at the other forum. Send me picture of the front of you Dak and I'll electronically install the headlights on your rig for you. That way you can get an idea of how they will look.
Your comments and ideas are welcome while we are still in the design faze of the program. Let us know what you like and want.

All three designs look wonderful. However, if I had to list them in favorites, I would tend to say that design #1 looks best, followed by design #3, and then design #2. The rings look a little odd to me in design #2, but design #1 and #3 are simply awesome!!
APC and Matrix fell asleep at that wheel here. Looks like 360 is going to get my money when these are released!

Could this be??? APC has a part number listed now for Projector Headlights for 97 & up Dakotas! The part number is 403671HL. Can anyone confirm that this number is indeed correct, and that these are already available?

Okay I talked to APC. That part number is not valid at this time. They are "working on them" was the response and they didn't know when they would be out. They will most likely be similar the ring style that I showed samples of.
We are not likely to do the projector style right away as the market research we did said most people wanted a direct replacement with the clear/diamond look. Plus ours will be less expensive. I think we will beat them to market anyway as we are going to have the prototype done the second week of Jan, not some vague "in a few months" time frame.

I don't know exactly as you said, the stock assemblies are $65 each side. We are hoping to be not too far from that but it is hard to tell until we get the prototype done and see what it actaully costs to make them in quanity.

For those Sport Truck subscribers, take a look at the ad for ProCarParts.com. They are showing a projector style headlight with the clear corners as an assembly for 199. I couldnt find it on their website, and havent had a chance to call as i just received my magazine today, but i am also interested in some new headlights as mine are turning a little yellowish from burning the brighter HID style bulbs. Any other info on these out there is appreciated!

$199 is a fair price for a full replacement of headlight and corners, should clean up the frontend very nicely. I don't have that mag, if anyone does and can scan it to post here or email to me I would appreciate it.
Looks like I know what my next purchase is if it is well made, I haven't really been a fan of procarparts previously as I bought their clear corners and they leaked, hopefully there is better quality in the new head/corner lights.

If what you saw is what I think they are, those headlights are for 1996 and earler trucks and not for the 97 + trucks. They have been around for about three years. I don't think they are what you are hoping for.
Unless you saw something on a newer D or Dak, in which case I'll have to check it out.
We are still working on ours by-the-way and I'll keep you informed.
