I have a 1997 Dakota Regular Cab. and I am ready to upgrade the stereo. I don't have a lot of cash to spend, so I just want to add a some bass. I was thinking of either two 10's or one 12. Where is everyone putting their subs in a Regular Cab? Behind the seat? What kinds of boxes are you using? What kind of boxes are available? I already have the subwoofers, just need boxes and location.

Pictures would be great.

Thanks.

I ran into the same problem of not enough space with my 98 dakota RC.

I ended up going with 2 6x9's and an 8" bass tube behind the passanger seat.

It hits preety good and sound great!!

I put a 8" bazooka DVC behind my passenger seat. Paid about $120 for it on yahoo shopping. Running a 5 channel kenwood with 150watt sub channel on it. Sounds great! not too loud, just right for me.

Hey i have a 98 reg cab. I have two 10' pioneer truck riders. One behind each seat with the amp in the middle behind the center console. For the space that is inside the cab they will deffinatly shake the mirrors. Sound damn good. Not that expensive considering some of the alternatives.

I have a 10" sub behind my passenger seat, it hits hard when I need it to. I'm pushing less than 200 watts also. I built my own box, but i can't remember the dimensions. If you need them let me know, it fits perfectly and has the right amount of cubic feet for my sub.

The size of the box depends on the speakers. I know the subs that i am getting in my truck so me and a friend made a custom box to fit my 98 RC. This box allows me to keep my jack in and have full function my seats back and forth. I can tell you now if you plan on running cheap subs you are gonna need more room because the size of the speakers. I am currently running JL w-0 but in Nov i will be upgrading to W-6. Go with 10's so there is more air space for the subs, and i wouldnt port the box because i feel you loose a lot of the thump. Look at competition boxes they are sealed. I'll try and find the drawings we did and post the diminsions. I am currently working with a custom shop to get a company to pick up on producing this box for dakotas. They have the boxes that are a perfect fit for S10 and Ranger but i have yet to see on that is on for the RC dakota. You can email me or IM me at Tinybaum@aol.com screen name is the same as email

Ok here goes............
I have 97 R/C Dakota
1. 2 JL W3's 10's one behind each seat in sealed boxes.
2. 12 band Audio Pro EQ/Passive Crossover, a 1 farrot cap, and a Fuse block on the wall behind the center console.
3. 2 Fosgate amps one under each seat one 500 Watt for the subs and 250 Watt for the mid's and high's. With 2" cooling fans I put in myself.
4. Cerwin-Vega 5 1/4 Mid's & 1" Tweet's in coustom kick panel's.
5. ECLIPES head unit.
6. Everything Professionally Installed in 1999 still makes my ear drums tingle "itch".
Wouldn't recomend the subs for someone taller than 5 10' I wanted the W6's but they were to deep for the box space and I would lose even more leg room with the seat even further up and my knees already just about hit the dash.
I still love my system no problems yet, and I have been pounding it every since.

That's it any question's let me know.

I am not trying to come off like i dick but JL W3 has a depth of about 6.5 inches if i am correct. The JL W6 is only 5.5 inches. The JL W0 is about 6 inches depth on 10 inch speakers. Now these are the specs straight off the JL website, and from personal experience wih JL. You might want to double check what you have because with the box that I have I cant mount 2 W6 and still have the seat all the way back. But other then that you have a pretty nice system I was running about the same setup in my other truck. Any questions let me know.

Hey it's no problem. I was going off of memory anyway & it was a couple of years ago.
I do remember that the newest JL speakers at that time were 1/2 to 1" deeper.
That's the ones I wanted but they wouldn't fit in the box. So looking at what your saying I have the W-6's

Thank's

I have been dealing with JL for about 4 years so it took me by surprise when you said that. What eclipse head unit you running? I just sold mine dont remember the number off my head. In Nov this place where me and most of my friends get our stereo stuff has all of the last year modle stuff cheap. So in Nov ill get the 02 stuff for cost. I am thinking about getting one of the new Alpine's that plays MP3's and is XM radio ready.
