Any suggestions on tonneau covers? For or against? I am looking for the hard one, not the soft one.

Thanks.

I have the Advance folding tonneau, and I love it.

It's in four sections. The rear 1/4 flips forward, the front 1/4 flips back (both lockable), the rear and middle sections fold onto the front (built-in straps keep them in place), or the whole unit is removed quickly and easily BY ONE PERSON.

It's made out of black anodized aluminum, very light weight, but probably not 100% water-proof.

This is the best and most versatile cover out there.... very usable. I paid $490.00.

I invested in a Pace Edwards Roll Top cover for my 97 dakota sport. It is a roll up hard top cover that locks. You can check it out at www.paceedwards.com.

I have the A.R.E. tonneau cover. You can even order it with a color matched wing. If you have power locks you can even add power locks to the tonneau.

I have the stockland hard cover. Painted to match and extremely low profile. I got it directly from Stockland and had it shipped to my business address (shipping is 1/2 that way) Paid maybe 650 for it.

I am going to get an Advance Folding cover. Basically like the Advance. Don't remember why I decided on the fold-a-cover over the advance though. Here is a link:

pace edwards has them for $423.00

GEM GT Classic. All steel construction, painted to match at the factory, Flush and in the 4 years I have had it, no leaks. Strong enough that you can mount racks on top of it

Dakota 2 Time: What kind of rack did you put on the Gem GT Classic? Where did you get it? I'd like to put a hard locking waterproof cover on a Quad cab plus a ladder/construction rack. Does anyone else have info on this?

(In case it's helpful to anyone, Gemtop makes a commercial combo for regular and crew cab, but not for the quad.)

Thanks!

I personally didn't put a rack on mine but GEM sells racks for bicycles and skies and stuff like that. I doubt the racks would be heavy duty industrial types but at least being steel the lid will survive some punishment.

I have seen 2 out here with the bike racks and it is a low profile unobtrusive design. don't really notice them when they are not in use unless you look hard.

The only disadvantage is that it can be hard to take off especially if it is hot out (Got a big scratch on my 97 ouch) and that holes have to be drilled for the hinges and the supports.

I've had a Peragon cover for some time now and couldn't be happier. The cover lets a few drops past here and there, nothing substantial. There's an anonymous poster running around on this site bashing the Peragon cover - sounds kind of phony to me. I'm trying to set the record straight. I hate to see any good product get bashed (maybe by one of their competitors?). Any folding/retracting cover is never going to be 100% waterproof. I think the Peragon design is better than most.

Happy truckin' - Mark

I have the Peragon cover also (02 QC 4x4). Works great. Leaks a little right at the tailgate seal. I think a thicker seal would minimize that leaking; might give the thicker seal idea a try next spring. This cover definitely gets a thumbs up from me - easy open/close, easy on/off, lockable, fairly weathertight.
