Subject: fender flares IP: Logged
Message: ok here's the deal, i have the fender flares, and they are starting to separate from the fender in a few areas. i live in ontario canada, so it's gonna get snow, ice, salt and sand in between. How easy is it to remove them? will they leave marks? or should i just go to the dealer and have them fix the problem? i kind of want to remove them to give the truck a clean look, but i don't know if the 255/65/16's will stick out and look stupid. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Message: There are about 6 or 7 screws holding the flares in place as well as the double-sided automtive tape. If you remove your fender flares, there might be some automotive tape left behind. When I removed mine, I used my finger to remove the tape that stuck to the fender and then used Goo Gone to remove the remaining adhesive. You'll also notice an accumulation of dirt and dust under the flares. Depending on how old your truck is and what color it is, you might notice some ghosting on the paint around the wheel well since it wasn't exposed to the UV rays.

Message: By the way, 255/65/16 tires will stick out a little. Maybe an inch or so. It's not that bad. I drove my truck around for a couple of weeks before I put my new flares on.

Message: Just wondering, but the material between the fender flares and the fender looks to be more like a foam backing (similar to that used for tonneau covers) rather than a double sided tape. I know when I installed my hood deflector between the hood and the grille, the material looks the same and it is not a double sided tape. Anyone know if this is the case? I just don't want to start taking them off and end up with a big mess, but if its only foam, I will take them off right away.
Thanks

Message: It's double-side automotive tape that is think. So, it's basically double-sided "foam" tape.
