the tire rubbs the plastic inner fender when i drive on the freeway and the suspencion gives. (i only have about 1- 1 1/2 inches between tire and fender) also if i hit a driveway too fast the tire will grap the lip of the fender and pull it down. (i have to hit it with a hammer to bend it back in place)
the ride is VERRY GOOD with the 4/6. (go with the western chassis kit and some good shocks im running doshtech and im happy with them)

what kind or rims are you getting? do you know the back spacing? if not i can help

for a 8" wide rim, get 6 1/4" of back spaceing. that will bring the lip of the rim right inside the lip of the fender. a "high positive offset" is required with that much backspacing and not all rims can be made with that, so check with the rim shop.
if you do go with a 4/6 drop, run either a 245/35ZR20 or a 255/35ZR20 tire. you wont rubb as much with the 245, but you will probably bend more rims. im running the mich XGT-Z4 255/35ZR20 (a VERRT GOOD tire) and have bent 2 rims in a year. (i also have billet aluminum rims which is part of the problem)

20s look much better than 18's. the wheel wells are huge in dakota's and sometimes i look at mine and think the rims are still too small. (maby im getting use to seeing them)
if you did do 18's you should really go with the 4/6 drop. that will make the wheel well look a little smaller, and the rim will look bigger. tire size that would be good would be a 245/40ZR18. you would not rub at all with this combo.

I have the 4/6 drop but I'm still ridin' on my stock wheels and they rub like a mother. I am getting rims in 1 week and have been having a hard time finding some that will fit. I have only found the Alba Blaze and the Coddington Monsoon. I'm sure that other coddingtons will fit also. Will the wheels still rub with 18's? And I also do a lot of freeway and bumpy-ass road riding so won't I bend the rim still?

I also have a 4/6 drop, and its friggin dope! I decided to go with the 15's and low profile tires. You should go with a smaller backspacing, looks much better. Mine have 1 3/8" backspacing, and also put 8, 3/4" spacers on each wheel. Really looks nice! My friend makes fun of me because I have a $20k TRUCK and cant make it in his driveway, or pretty much anywhere else. I also carry a hammer with me to hammer out the fender after the tire hits it. You get used to it though, no biggie. The performance gains are awesome too. I went more in to it in my post on the "euro tail lights are here!" post.

Dope Azz 97 dropped on 15's
Street eating 3.9, open headers, no hood
10# supercharger on the way, nitrous too!

karen, 18's with a 4/6 drop will not rubb. you should get a 245/40ZR18 or 255/40ZR18. try to get the michellin XZT-Z4 tire. it is the best tire i have had. it costs a little more but it will last longer and the side wall will give you a good ride. with a 40 series tire you should not bend too many rims, but still look out for big pot holes
budnik also makes rims that are available with a "high positive offset" that our trucks require.
for back spaceing an 8" rim requires 6 1/2" of back spaceing.

I've got a 99 2 wheel drive V6 Dakota. I was planning on putting 18's on it, but I have come to the conclusion that 20's would look much better. However, I do not plan on dropping the truck at becuase I already have a body kit on it. If I put 20's on it will they rub? And won't wheels that large ware out my front end?
