Subject: Considering a 01 RT (Need Help) IP: Logged
Message: The last month I have been searching for a new truck. After viewing this site and reading post after post and seeing numerous member rides that made my jaw drop I have been eyeing a a 2001 Dodge Dakota RT with the 5.9. It has cd, power locks, power windows, bucket seats, power overhead convience group, fiberglass tonneau cover. The best thing is this truck has 8,000 miles. It has had no modifications to it whatsoever.
Anyhow, the asking price is 17,800. I was wondering if this is a fair price to ask. I figured I could get it down to maybe 16,000. Would either of these prices be an okay price for this truck. I have no problem getting what I payed for but I just don't want to be getting ripped.
If this is a good price what are some of the first things I need to do to it? I was thinking about dual exaust and lowering it a bit. I don't want a scraper but I would like a low feel. Would anyone be able to tell me how much I would be looking spend to do both these things to my truck?
Any help at all would be appreciated. I can't wait to join the wonderful world of RT.

Message: You could probably get a few more dollars taken off of the price, but it's not outrageous. The invoice price on my 2001 R/T new was $25,900.
K&N Intake, 50mm TB, Headers/Exhaust should be your first performance options.
Here's a link to some good Dakota parts info:

Message: Lately, I've been looking for an Ex-cab RT. I've found several '00 for at least $17 grand. So your price is prolly ok. Maybe a bit high for a regular cab.

Message: Thanks guys for the info. I have been looking more into roll pans, grills, hoods, and lowering. Things are really exciting.
SinCity, the website you have was excellent. It was exactly what I have been looking for this whole time. It could not be more helpful. I would recomend it to anyone who has a Dak.
Thanks,
Phil
