Message:
i was thinking of mounting red neon lights under my hood (wired through either a pinswitch, or a mercury switch) so that the neon comes on when the hood is opened

my question is this ( are there an neon lights that would not be effected by the under hood temp.?)

my buddy has streetglow on his right behind the grill, of course his truck is a ramcharger, it should be affected, but where are you gonna mount it? BTW, red neon is illegal on the streets.

if you have an under hood light, you could splice into that and power it that way, then when you pop the hood it would come on. hey, that's pretty smart ain't it?

Have have neon under my hood. Well not really "under the hood" but 6 red tubes behind the grille and a whole lot more in the engine bay itself. (tried putting them underside the hood, just didn't work). I have 2 underground lighting kits, 2 blue strobes kits outside, 2 white strobe kits inside, blue headlight neon kit, red neon pedals, 2 blue 8" neon circle tubes behind the seats, 20+ feet of red neon hot wirz inside, and god knows how many other neons tubes i have in every nook and cranny.

So, am i a ricer mystery man? Let me hear it. You wanna dog on someones gay neon lights, then dog on my truck. But when you start voicing your opinion, i would like to hear how many "show" awards you won. All of my neon have earned me big points at shows and it definetly turns heads. All the show awards i have recieved because of my "gay neon lights" would make you $hit your pants.

As for joe dodge, sorry i didn't speak up earlier. I don't know about the relationship between hood temps and neons, but i know it will look sweet. Let me know how it looks if u do it.

Well Stepdogg!!
Your right about one thing I don't have any show awards for my truck. I have a life and don't see the point in putting neon all over my truck for a plastic trophy. But if that is what you like more power to ya. I guess i don't understand why someone would like thier truck to look like a dance club. Unless your not old enough to get in one. And as for me $hiting my pants over your awards... I don't think so being that your awards don't mean squat to me. So you have fun with your neon and you cute little trophies okay.

neon is kwel....so is prize money and a little snatch too.....

Being a big weenie on a dakota site = not very kwel at all. lets try to be adults about our opinions before we start lightin people up with a can-o-gas!

I never heard of neon ever getting too hot. You shouldn't have a problem in that department. I would use a pin switch to turn it on. You could get one from an old beetle @ auto store for like 5 bucks(if that)

Geez mysteryman, you say you have a life, yet you argue online? Think twice before you speak, and stop being such an opinionated jerk, if that is what joedodge wants, good for him. but i'm not going any farther, because arguing in forums is a waste of time.

By the way, I don't think the heat would harm the neons, as long as the casing is not cheap plastic, because the neon gas will be fine under those temperatures, so just watch out for what the stuff is made of.

i had a blue neon in my grill and the only thing that messed it up was the rocks from other cars, so under the hood shouldnt be a problem. as for mysteryman, this is why its called "custom style" you jack ass. custom means personalizing, so he can do what ever he wants, its his truck isnt it? so why do you care? your dakota is probaly painted camo style with spray paint that i always see the red necks driving around, but if thats you thing then do it. as for neon lights i have the black lights under my seats, a neon bass tube, a neon around my stereo, and 2 sets of rope light on my dash, underbody lights, strobes in my clear corners, around my license plate, and a led exaust tip.

Don't worry i haven't forgot about your questions. just haven't had time to answer yet. But i'll keep you posted, maybe later tonight.

blackdak your set up sounds very much like mine. We may have to compare notes. Sounds like it looks sweet though. Catch you later.
