Subject: Brush Bars and Air Bags IP: Logged
Message: So I wanna get a brush bar 'cause I think the Durango and Dakota are really the only trucks and SUV's that pull off the look...but I've got a question: with the installation of a brush bar kit, do the air bags still work reliably? Since they install to the frame, I'm thinking that if you did crash, you'd have to hit pretty hard in order for the brush bar to cave enough to trigger the air bag switches. Any comments?

Message: It would depend on the amount of force it takes to deform the brush bar....
My little bro wrecked my truck going 10-15mph - dead stop into a gate post. Only damage was to the hangers of the brush bar (Westin Safari bar). The bar itself was ok. (I had to replace hood, as the gate flipped up and hit it.)
I would say yes,,it is going increase the impact at which your airbags go off, as I believe the hangers of the bar will deform before the bar does,,,and lastly the bumper will collapse...
But that's just my real life experience :)

Message: I too have wondered this! Hmmmmmm! Airbags do indeed work with the impact factor, but most newer ones also incorporate the deceleration factor. Plus you have all that extra steel up there to protect you! :-) The only reason that I haven't put a "cow catcher" on my Dak, is then it wont fit in the garage! And my baby aint sleeping outside!
