I have had both on two identical dak's both 99's. I had a lund fiberglass rollpan, and a sirmichaels steel. As far as ease on installation, painting, fitting, etc I would have to say to go with the steel. Also make sure that the one you buy has the precut holes for everything such as the license plate lights or you will find yourself doing alot more than you need to as far as measuring, cutting, sanding, etc.
Quick summary..If you have alittle extra cash go for the steel.

I have a Sir Michael's steel roll pan on my 2000. I had it molded into the body, and it looks awesome.

go with the steel rollpan, if you ever wanted to mold it to the body you can. I ditched my fiberglass one and got a steel pan and molded it in. looks sweet!

I have the factory mopar roll pan, they call it a "rear valance" It is plastic with thin steel behind it. I have pics on my site if you want to see.
