Subject: will 18" x 10" wheels fit?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a short bed Dak with a 5 sp and 318 and rwd and thee HD package at stock height can I get 18" rims under there with no rubbing at 10" wide?

I might drop the rear a bit (2") just to level it out but I'm not going to put it in the weeds.

Any help appreciated!

Middy

wait, let me clarify. they will fit in the rear. you will need to get a 18X8 up front. make sure you get the right backspaceing also.
if you dont have fender flares here are the backspaceing to get

18X8= 6 1/2" back spaceing
18X10= 8 1/2" back spaceing

How come I have to go 8" up front?

Aren't the RT rims 9" wide?

Do RT's have some kind of different inner fender up front I heard they did at a show once when I was asking about the 18 x 10's

Thanks for all your input!

You need thinner tires in front so they won't rub when you turn, or they will rub in the corners.

the R/T's do come with a 9" rim up front. but they have a diffrent backspacing than the normal rims. that's why they come with the (4X4) fender flairs. if you do a 10" rim and dont want it to stick out its going to rubb when you turn.
even if you get the fender flairs the tire will stick out and look like crap. (my opinion)

why do you want 10" wide rims up front?
what size tire do you want to run?

I'll let you in on a secret I'm building my Truck up like a factory ACR model and I wanted to use the 18" factory fronts from a viper, I figured I could mess with the back spacing easier than with tire width.

You don't hapen to know how dificult it would be to narrow a set of factory rims do you?

I really want the whole deal to look totally factory which is why I'm really pushing the isue with the 18x10's I don't have flares on it right now but if I had to I'd put 'em on.

Also thinking about putting the battery in the right rear corner of the bed.

I'm working on a budget right now but I'm trying to plan ahead.

I really apreciate all your help.

Thnks

why not order the wheels from BBS. they are the suplier for the viper ACR. you can get the exact rim that is on the viper, and have it 8" wide.

the battery in the bed is easy.

I Might do that, but I was actually thinking of the other one the stock 18"er that comes on all Vipers.

I'm not sure if it's a five spoke or it has 5 little cutouts but I'm sure you know the one I'm thinking of. There is a site that sells reworked wheels realativeley inexpensively maybe thaey could cut a set of them for me?

Thanks again for all your help.

The factory RT wheel are 17x9 with a 5.95 back setting. Maybe you can use this information.

FYI. The August edition of Sport Truck Mag has a 99 Dakota R/T running 18x10 rear and 18x9 in the front. He's running HRE 541's WOW do they look great! Also has a Hotchkis kit which gave him a 2/3 drop.

Yeah, I priced the BBS rim's yikes! I'm working on a connection at an auto body shop in town that's got a few vipers in the shop. I think I can get them to let me try a 17x10" three spoke from the original release Vipers. The reason I went to the shop in the first place was to check if I could fit all the Viper Front Brake gear under the front of the Dak. Sadly it ain't gonna happen, the ball joints are above and below the spindles on the Viper, and both balls are above the spindles on the Dak. A custom spindle would be necesary. (sp?)

I wonder how much it would cost to get a set of custom spindles made up? (Evil Grin)

I will re-Post once I have the info. I saw a lifted quad cab with the 96-98 5 spoke viper fronts on all four corners, but for stock height I don't think I can take much info from that.

Thanks all. especially Dak on 20's that backspacing info is killer!

Middy.

on the rear too:

Expensive, but can be done.

I dont know if they will fit or not, but you should sell that dodge dakota and buy a real truck. THEN put wheels and tires on it. Get a GMC Sierra 2500hd or a silverado hd2500. Actually, even a ford f250 would be better. Dodge makes the ugliest trucks out there. Ten years from now you guys are all going to look back and say "what were we thinking?!"
