Subject: 18's or 20's?? IP: Logged
Message: Just wondering if 20's x 8/5 would tuck under the fender. Right now i have a 3/5 DJM drop kit and have a set of 18"s priced out that i like. But if 20's would work fine with my setup i might as well pay the extra and get um. Does anyone know of any problems i might face with 20's or should i just stick with 18's.
thanks

Message: Just thought of another question what size tires would i need to keep a near stock height which is approx 28 (15' sport wheels with 255/65/15) and what would the approx height of the firewall be on them. As long as i keep the height fairly close i shouldnt have any rubbing problems? the rims im lookin at are 18x8.5 and 20x8.5 is 8.5 too big?
thanks again

Message: If you stay with 255 with then you would want 255/50/18 tires for the 18" (5" tire sidewall) or 255/40/20 for the 20" (4" tire sidewall). The only 255/50/18 I've seen is the Pirelli Scorpions. I have not found the 20" tires. It's relatively difficult to find 28" tall tires in 18's and 20's. Of course you can go to 27" tires, theres a better selection of those.

Message: So i guess that 27" height wise is the best way to go then. 1' smaller shouldnt throw my speedo off very much at least i dont think so.
thanks for the info mark. Do you have any idea what the width of the stock 15"s are is it 8.5?? thanks

Message: I thought stock sports were 16 inch rims, with an overall height of 29.1" Maybe thats just my 2002. Try and stick as close to your stock height all around. I'd go with the 20's just so I could say "ya, i'm rolling on dubs"

Message: BigRedDak - Stock rim is 15", if you get the tire and handling group you get 16" rims.
I think the 15's are 15x8 could be 15x7. The 16's are 16x8. The R/T rims are 17x9.
If you are going 18x8.5 or 20x8.5 just make sure the backspacing is about 5.5" to 6". That way they won't stick out.

Message: First off you will need a 8" wide rim and with a 3/5 drop you will need 6.25 backspacing. You will also need to be looking for a 245 tread width if you dont want your tires to rub.
Trust me on this one! If you have any ? feel free to ask why.
