What's the best way to remove the cheap looking Dodge and 4x4 stickers on the tailgate? I used a hairdryer to get off the dealer sticker, but I don't think that will create enough heat to get these stickers off.

I purchased the vehicle about a month ago (new), so if I take these stickers off I'd like to do it before the paint has any chance of discoloring and leaving evidence that I took these stickers off.

Durango tailgates come with chrome markings and I thought I might look at them closely to see how they might look on a Dakota tailgate. Also thought about just leaving it bare. The Patriot Blue looks very sweat with the Bright Silver two-tone.

I don't understand how we can buy a $24-30K SLT truck and Dodge puts on ugly stickers on the tailgate rather than chrome like the doors.

let the truck sit outside in the heat of the day.carefully start on one corner of the letter and peel at an angle.it should come off rather easily.a blowdryer can help too.then use some 3m adhesive remover from napa,to get the glue off.then wax it really good.

good luck......

DONT USE ALCOHOL PADS TO REMOVE THE GLUE UNLESS YOU CAN GET THE SCRATCHES BUFFED OUT BY SOMEONE!!!! BEEN THERE DONE THAT :( other than that they just peel off with or without heat.

So you guys are saying it's not a major task? I didn't try yet figuring I'd screw it up - that's my luck. Something that seems simple turns into a migraine.

One of my friends sells to NAPA stores, maybe he can hook me up with the 3M materials.

I removed the tailgate stickers and bought the silver metal "DODGE" and "4X4" letters from the rear hatch of the Durango. They look much better.

I used a heat gun to remove the stickers and then some 3M adhesive remover to remove any adhesive still remaining. The heat gun works great just be carefull not to get it too hot. I put it on low and kept it about 4" off the body for about 15 seconds. Lifts right off.

I took the stickers off this afternoon, after I let the truck in the sun all day and used the 3M adhesive remover. You were right, it was easy. When it's wet you can still see where the stickers were, but I think polishing the tailgate tomorrow will take care of that.

Canton, where did you get the Durango rear hatch markings? I looked at a Durango while stopped at a light the other day and the size and font looked the same. Do you have a picture you can post of your tailgate?

Hell, you don't even need a heat gun. A blow dryer gets the sticker more than hot enough to peel it off. For these back stickers you don't even need anything special, a fingernail will work fine.

BobbyD, I don't reccomend using a polish. Polishing it will just create a kind of blotch and the two contrasted sections will not combine at all since the actual paint are different colours. Your paint under the sticker hasn't been subject to as much abuse from the sun and weather like the rest of your paint has. Polishing is more for clear coat scratches, not paint smoothing. The best thing you can do is just give it a good waxing. A good wax job with a quality wax will hide any difference that is there. You know it's a good waxjob when you know there is a paint difference there, but you or anyone else can not see it.

I only speak from experience on this one. Making mistakes in your paint is hard to live down...

Mine is a 97 and I just removed the stickers this summer. When it is waxed, you cannot see it at all.
xplikt, what is the story behind your thumbnail, do you have a little one that created that for you?
My nephew taped a piece of paper that said "4x4" on my tailgate when he was around 4 years old. It was to help me get home safely after a snow storm.

Nope Lesley, I did it all by myself! It's showing off my mad skillz in MS Paint. Actually I was tired of looking at the No Pic, Please Upload thing. Next Sunday I am getting some pictures taken of me at an autocross, so I should have some live action shots in a week. Man I'm pumped for it. I have my new suspension on and I'm ready to see what limits I can push it to.
