Subject: Painting Engine bay plastic?
IP: Logged

Message:
Im planning on painting some plastic parts in my engine bay. What is the correct way to paint these parts without the paint peeling, flacking, melting off?

I did some tests on some old platic parts and the paint peels off.

For the most part the platic is not textured but very smooth.

sand it with some sand paper, then prime it, then paint it.

You should also try some adhesion promoter under the primer, it helps paint stick to things like plastic. Maybe some high temp. paint too.

What grit sand paper should I use?

For the primer and promoter, is there a certain type I should use for the plastic, or just use any type?
