Chuck,

i was just wondering how you are painting the parts on your truck. Are you mixing the paint yourself? Is it hard to lay down?...... can you give me some info on it? I have heard that pearls are hard to paint and i wanted to get started on my bed someday soon. Any advice would be great... including what i might need and what not need. I have experience with body work but nothing more than welding, bondo, and rattle can painting with some wet sanding.

thanx!!

You can read how I did all the painting at www.intense99dak.com/dash.htm

I did everything out of a spray can with a lot of sanding/wet sanding between coats.

I saw your other post(s) about painting the exterior of your Dak and I really don't think that you want to do it from spray cans (although the pearl coat does come through from the cans).

Unfortunately I don't have exterior painting experience so I wouldn't be able to offer any sound advice. But I can tell you that the steps are basically the same between what I did and what needs to be done to the exterior.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

well hell i am just amazed that you can do that.... i have had good times with sray cans too. (painting with them that is;-)

i really dont want to use a rattle can on the back either but ever since Dupli-Color came out with the Intense pearl in a can i got really excited and have wanted to paint something...

Are you using that DupliColor paint? i think the code was like T038 or something... i saw an ad for it in an old issue of Car Craft.

also.... did you use a clear coat on all that stuff?

hey well thanx for the info!

Yep, I'm using all Dupli-Color products and have had excellent results with them. The p/n for the Intense Blue is T359. I'm not sure what the p/n for the clear coat I used is, but I believe it's under the Truck, Van & SUV line (same as the IB paint).

Yes, I used a lot of clear coat on my interior. About 6-8 coats per piece on average. I knew that a couple coats would be enough to protect the base coat, but I was going for some extra depth ... which I got. :-)

Thanks,

Is that the Dupli-color p/n for PB3? Just checking because I looked for it in their catalog and couldn't find it.

Sorry for the late reply, but I just got home from a 34 hr. shift.

I had emailed Dupli-Color with the Intense Blue paint code (PB3) and they responded back with the above part number. I then went to the local Napa and they had some at a warehouse and in my hand the next day.

I have no idea when they came out with the IB paint, but the match is very good.

intensedak3...doh.. intense99dak,

i went to autozone down here to see if they carried it.... asked them if they could order it and they said NO!... crap. went over to the shelf and they had T358 and T360... holy crap.

i just went to O'Reilly's and asked if they could order some and the guy said "we have two on the shelf" i said "oh hell ya!" very loud...

i painted over the primer on the back of my truck to cover the gray. It isnt the best job but looks better than gray. It looks a little darker than the original but i think that some sanding and clear coat would make it look good.

just wanted to say thanx for the help
