Subject: Anyone Rollin 18's on 4x4? IP: Logged
Message: I just ordered some kick ass Emo Chrome 18x8.5" wheels for my wifes new 2002 RC 4x4 and have heard that 255/55-18 is what to use, but that size is about an inch shorter than the current stock 265/70-16's which are close to 31" tall. The truck will see alotta highway travel so I don't want to "gear it down" any lower than the 3.55's and spin even higher rpms at 70+mph.
It would seem that 265/60-18's are almost the exact height width as stock goodyears but with a shorter sidewall. My opinion is that it should be just fine with no rubbing and if no one knows then I will be ordering anyway, but I figured I would check first.

Message: I`m in the process of getting a set of 18s for my `02 QC AWD SLT. I haven`t yet decided on the rim style , but I know I`m going with an 18x8.5 or 9.
I`m also getting the new Nitto Terra Grappler 325/60-18. I`m getting a 3in body lift also , those are some BIG tires...33x13s!My local tire guy ordered one in for me to look at in person, I was sold after that.
I want a different look than all the rest of the trucks out there. They either have little rims and big tires , or big rims and little tires.
I`m pretty sure the combo you`re getting should fit fine. I`ve been doing alot of homework on this similar set-up.
Post pics. when you get them , I`d love to see them. I hope to have mine in a couple of weeks.

Message: Thanks Scott for the comment, I am ordering the tires on Monday and going with 265/60-18 and will trim some If I need to. Since the rim is .5" wider than stock tire, it should be fine.
On your set-up, 13" wide tires you should probably stick with 8" wide wheels and factory offset then you may only have to crank tbars to near max for clearance. Otherwise some trimming may be needed. As you can see from my profile, On my 2001 CC, I have 33x12.50 16's on 16x8 American Racing wheels that are offset about .5" out from stock, not enough to cause any rubbing problems but if the wheel was an extra .5" wider I believe some rubbing would occur at the usual contact points(bottom of front bumper fascia, bottom inside/outside rear corner of front wheel well and maybe even the frame at full lock.
Good-luck with your set though and I will be posting pics to my photoalbum with link once the wheels/tires are on. The wheels may take the longest, but hopefully everything will be on my doorstep no later than Friday(I have my fingers crossed:)

Message: 2thexrm,
Ordered my wheels today , they should be here wed.
I ended up getting the MKW MK-9s...18x8.5.
Tires and body lift should all be here by the end of the week.
Maybe , or should I say MAYBE, they will all be on by this weekend!!! Yea right!
Probably next weekend , as I have a b-day party to take my son to on Sat.
I`ll keep you posted on the outcome.
BTW your truck looks great , I was going to go with the same type set-up , but I always have to be a little different. With my luck everyone will be going with the same look as me now, then I`ll have to do something else.

Message: It is DONE and I think it look awesome! I had to do some minor trimming on the front valance but other than that no rubbing.
Damn these are some big tires. They way a ton though, between the weight and extra height I did loose some power:(
I`ll get some pictures as soon as it quits raining around here and I can get it cleaned up!

Message: That's great that little trimming needed for that size tire. A little loss in power can be made up with a few other mods:) Worth it to look good IMO, lol. I Just checked out the wheels you have, sweet. How much did those puppies set ya back? Send pics ASAP, gotta see it!
Should have the 18's on this Friday and I will also get some pics together with the digital camera.

Message: 2thextrm,
Well , did you get your wheels on yet? I should have some pics. available soon.
BTW the wheels were around 325ea. and the tires were around 210ea. Prices were in line with what the mags. have been advertising them for. I probably could have saved a buck or two here and there , but my tire and wheel guy is great. He gets shipments in daily and we can work around the sales tax , so no shipping costs or taxes with the ability to get things fast is worth it IMO.
One last thing , I said somewhere they don`t rub but I was wrong. They ever-so-slightly rub the frame at full lock...more in reverse then foreward.
It took a few days to find out , so I guess it`s not that big of a deal.
