Subject: Fender Flares falling off?
IP: Logged

Message:
Anybody else having problems with their factory wheel flares seperating from the body panel? The 3M two-sided tape is letting go on my two rear fender flares. They're not hanging off or anything, but they're not snug against the body panel anymore. Is this normal for a 30K truck? Is there a recall on this at all?

I contacted a body shop, and they are willing to pull off the flares, clean everything up, and reinstall both of them for $100. Kinda sad though that this has to be done so soon.

Don't even get me started on this subject!! I have the same problem and I'm still under the 3-year 36k warranty and the dealer refuses to swap them out. I have the left front and the right rear doing the same thing. I would love to put up a stink on this one loud and clear!

They told me "It's normal on the them to pull away". Normal?! Normal how?! They do not even get wear and tear for god's sake!

I noticed my fender flares were pulling away on the second day that I had my truck. That would be about 30 miles on the truck(2002 SLT CC). They shouldn't use that crappy tape. I am going to complain at some point when it is worse.

Yeah, mine hasn't really seen any rugged abuse either. Actually..if you really want to get picky, some of the hardware underneath that bolts them into the fenderwheel is coming loose too. I'm about tempted to go buy some bigger stainless bolts and washers and redo all the chinzy screws that they used and have the bastards re-taped as well. The last thing I want is a moisture pocket to rust out the body.

You'd think with the number of DAK owners on these boards alone we could make enough stink to get Dodge to recognize it.

They are screwed under the fender and taped on the body. I just sent Dodge a really nasty note. Not sure what it will do but it made me feel better

here is the full link to their contact page. I suggest you all do the same. Can't hurt

Here is the reponse from Dodge:

"Dear Christopher,

Thank you for your recent e-mail to DaimlerChrysler Motors Corporation
regarding the fender flare problem you stated you are having with your
2000 Dakota.

I was disappointed to learn about your dissatisfaction and contacted EJ
the service manager at Allen Mello Dodge to discuss the matter further.
Ej advised me that he reviewed the matter and stated the issue is a
normal characteristic of the vehicle, and if another flare was put on, it
would not fit as well as the current one. If you disagree with this
diagnosis, you are welcome to seek a second opinion from another
DaimlerChrysler dealership. Any defects will be repaired per the terms of the
manufacturer's warranty.

Thank you for writing and sharing your concerns."

I also sent them back another message asking them to re-examine a common problem being deemed a "Normal failure" since that is an oximoron

more than likely yours were put on without cleaning the surface with alcohol (manufacturer)... the tape will stick for 4 years or so without probs... I put mine on and have had no problems...

100 to reinstall them! Heck, I'll do it for that!
