i believe they may be but since they only come on when u back up cops will hardly see it and probably wont care

It really depends on local laws. Most places the license plate lights can't be any other color than white. The reverse lights, any color you want bro.

I'd avoid using blue backup bulbs because it's the most difficult color to see at night. People will have a harder time seeing you, and you'll definitely see less behind you when backing up.
I'm using Xenon/Krypton bulbs in the back and they work great. Looks blue unlit, bright white lit.

I would go against it it definetly takes away light backing up. But If you do do it dont get purple >>>>>>> It Lookes pink when lit up, Just my 2 cents. TnT
