Message: I did this once. They called it smoking the tail lights?.?. Anyway I digress, all you have to do is remove the light cluster, remove the bulbs. hen take some black primer paint and lightly spray the inside surface of the lense. Don't cover it completly just a mist of the paint will do. The black primer paint does not allow the light to reflect from inside the cluster thus darkening the lense. Plus when you want to remove it just splash around some paint thinner in the cluster and it comes off. Just don't let the paint thinner sit in one spot too long. Repeat the removal process until it is all gone.:)

Message: Gary... there is actually a product for this purpose. It's called Niteshades or Nightshades, not sure on the spelling on the can. It goes on the outside of the lenses and works pretty decent. It was a few yrs ago on a previous truck I used it but I am sure it's still available somewhere.
I have tried the light black spray method and it didn't really work out all that well... instead of a smoked/tinted look, it results in more of a speckled type thing.. the more you spray the less you see the lights.. (not too safe IMO). The stuff I mentioned looks black but when you hit the brakes or have the lights on you can see the tail/brake lights really good, far better that the GTS covers.

Message: Thanks crashyyz:
you're right, i don't want anything that will substantially dim the output of my brakelights, the traffic here in town is bad enough at the best of times (Fayetteville NC)
I'll see if i can track down any NightShade....
