Subject: Dead Fog Lamp Fix IP: Logged
Message: The fog lamps both mysteriously went out on me at the same time. A little trouble shooting led me back to the switch. I called the dealer and they wanted $36.50 for a new one.
I pulled it out and checked the continuity between the pins of the 2 pin connector. They should ring together w/ the fog lamps on. If not, push in the tabs holding the back on and carefully pull the back off. You don't need to take it all apart, just pull the back off. Be careful if you do pull it all apart; and hold it w/ the switch down. There should be a copper "contact wing" on the end of the knob stem. This is for the fog lamps, and isn't secured very well. Get it back in place and melt the plastic back down to secure it, and voila! Recheck the continuity and you should be good to go.

Message: My foglights also went out on my 00' dak and I'd like to know if your high beams were affected? my problem sounds like yours but when I turn on my foglights my high beam indicator glows slightly. Then when I hit the high beams my headlights go out completely. I'd apreciate any extra info you can give as I'm not very good with the electrical stuff. thanks.
By the way, how does your dak sound w/the dual exhaust and muffler? pretty sweet I bet.

Message: Mine did that littleram....
I put some crappy bright white(blue tint) bulbs in mine. After a week, they messed up and did the same as yours. The middle pin on the lights burnt up.I put the org. back in and no prob.

Message: Thanx Will,
My local dealer wanted to charge at least an hours labor + parts (light switch). I'll try the bulbs first and if that doesn't do the trick, I'll do what Randelle did. I'll post my results. Thanks again guys.

Message: It could be an issue with a short in the switch. It isn't the greatest design, but it is very simple. If you think it may be the switch, don't be afraid to pull it out. Be carefull when you dissassemble it though, there are springs below the contacts on the inside and the parts will fall out if you take it apart too fast. Just make sure everything is in it's proper place; if it is, look somewhere else for the problem.
It could possibly be the relay under the hood. All the relay does is turn off the fog lights when you go to high beams (stupid law). Swap the fog lamp relay with the horn relay and see if the problem goes away. If it does, make a jumper and jump pins #4 & #3 (look on bottom side of relay)together for the lamps. This will allow the fog lamps to stay on with the high beams.
The exhaust sounds AWESOME. The Vortec is made by Maremont and the pipes are off the shelf (mandrel bent). Price was much cheaper than other systems, but the sound and quality are excellent.
