 Subject: painting dash

i want to paint my interior(dash, airvents, ect.) but i dont know what color to paint them......i have a black 97' rc i was thinking red b/c of the decals. but what color red, dark? any pics/help would be appriciated.

hey n8.. as you know i painted my dash.. and i did it just normal factory fire red .. you can buy it pretty much at any automotive place.. it should be plenty bright enuff.. if you wanna check mine out to see how it turned out its

I painted mine a safety red color and it looks good. I wanted it a little darker, I think that would look the best with a grey interior.

just so you dont use a spray can to paint it...its usually ok to prime it with a spray can primer...but you should take it to a shop and have it sprayed and clearcoated with automotive paint and clearcoat...all the people who have paint chippin off their painted dashes usually used a spray can to do it themselves...just a thought...

Sorry to prove you wrong Justin, but you can get professional results out of a spray can and not worry about paint chipping. It's all in how you do it.
I have had my dash painted for well over a year without any chipping, flaking, discoloration or anything else one would expect from a spray can. I live in new England where it gets well below freezing as well as over a hundred (and my windows usually stay shut when it's parked). And no, there's no orange peel either as the below pics show.
N8 dawg - I think red would look great, but I have no idea what shade you could try other than the factory red.

You can buy a fake or real carbon fiber dash. Carbon fiber is real strong and real light weight. It looks like little black and white checkers up close.

joe i have saw ur interior...it looks good...intense...you got one hell of a truck! alot of money and time into your truck...looks great! and what kinda seats do you have?
and with the red paint? would i want a darker shade? i would like to get the carbon fiber but its too expensive for a dash...paint looks just as good and costs a hell of alot less.
joe i thought you were gettin rid of ur truck and buying the 5.9? decide to keep your truck? and any new mods?

N8 dawg, I painted my dash and interior door handles flame red with plastikote paint. It matches perfect! Chuck's directions are great. Just take your time. I wouldn't go with any other red besides the flame red. The dash looks really sharp if your looking at it from the front of the truck through the windshield. I can let you know what paint code for plastikote if you need it.

n8 dawg, I bought the paint at walmart. I think it was around 4 bucks a can. Sorry no pictures, but its quality paint and gave a great result. My truck is flame red. The paint has held up great through 100+ degree heat and 15 degree cold. If you go to www.dakotart.com and look up Jim Burr's R/T, his dash is pretty much the same as mine. Later.

The paint i got was called Color Match.. Flame red same color as paint of the truck..same paint code. came in small cans.. about 5 bucks a can.. not to bad.. i also used a good primer and clear coat..
