Hey- let me know if you get any ideas- I'm itching to put a sub in my 00 Quad. I think I'll wind up with something mounted on the hump in the back seat area. I would have liked a stealth mount, but I don't see anywhere for one.

I mounted one of the new 8" Kicker L7 Solobarics in a custom enclosure that is built into the center console and extends onto the "hump" in the backseat. The sub fires downward, about 1 inch off the floor. Most people dont realize that its there. You also benefit from having it pointing down, as the sub is compound loaded against the floor. Just look at how all the powered subwoofers are built for home stereos. Almost all of them fire down towards the floor. If you want the plans shoot me an email and I'll see if i can find them. The only drawback to the sub box is that you lose access to the rear cupholders. I'll post pics shortly.

Jason O? Give me some measurements. Length from rear of front seat to the front of rear seat. Height from floor to bottom of front seat. Width of the center of front seat. When taking these measurements try to compress the carpet and padding as much as possible. I'll see if I can come up with a box to fit your needs. One thing is for certain, you're not going to have a "Bass Machine", but you'll have some good bottom end with an eight or a ten.

This was posted over at the Dakota Quad Cab Message Board. I have emailed this guy and he is sending box dimensions. If you are interested you can email me and I will forward his design to you.

From Johnboy:

I put an 8 inch Rockford Fosgate DVC in my 2000 Quad with a custom built box that I designed and built. The problem is there's not much room behind the seat for big boxes.......This box barely fits but it sounds good for an 8. Nobody can believe it's only 1 sub, but if you are just looking for great sound then that's where I would go with it.......I put it behind the driver side back seat. The seat no longer goes up and down much at all but I still have the other side with no problems..........I installed a Precision Power amp that puts out 300 Watts behind the other side back seat.......It doesn't interfere with the seat going up and down and it has never overheated so I guess it's getting plenty of air. If you would like the design and layout of the box just email me and I will send it to you. It is right on the money for airspace for that speaker.......you have to remember that every speaker needs different amounts of airspace to work properly and give you the sound you want. I hope this information is helpful. I searched forever to find a pre-built box that will work but nothing will fit. I'm happy with my install, although it wasn't easy.
by the way, the Infinity Basslink system's will not fit. There isn't enough room behind the seat. I also have a Clarion CD player that is really awesome, a pair of 6 1/2" Rockford Fosgate Q-series mids in the doors, the tweeters are up above near the oh-shi* handles, aiming down toward the front passengers, the back doors have a pair of 6 1/2" Polk in the back doors(half as good of sound as the Fosgate, but over half the price), and a Rockford Fosgate 4-channel amp under the front passenger seat pushing all the mids and highs. I also have an Epicenter on the sub which is mounted under the driver's seat. Not to mention the 1-Farad capacitor behind the passenger side back seat and the two-amp fuse block at the bottom of the back panel on the truck, so when I raise the back passenger side seat, I can change the fuses easily if necessary. I have had no problems with overheating of anything and it really sounds awesome. The epicenter on the sub makes all the difference but be careful not to blow your sub with it. I'm still a stereo junky, but I will never sacrifice seating capacity for a speaker. The door speakers are tricky to mount b/c I had to make special mounting plates out of 3/4" MDF to seal the space between the door, not to mention raising them away from the glass inside the door. It's not easy but if you take your time and think about what you're doing, you can make it work. I am proud of this install. It took me over 6 months to figure it all out, but I got it together finally. If anyone needs more details email me with your questions and I will help you the best I can. I didn't get much help from anybody on this, other than my brother, but I hope this makes it a lot easier on everyone else.

P.S. I love my truck and I will be submitting pictures soon. I wouldn't trade it for any other truck out there.

John Martin,
Not unless your planning on cutting a hole in the floor and welding a box up under it. The floor rises to the bottom of the back seat. There's enough room to store a windshield visor and thats it.

Will there be any obsticles in the way of making a hole under the back seat. If thee isn't can you make a speaker box through the bottom and reinforce it with sheet metal so the wood is not exposed to the debris and water, etc. If this is possible I'll put 2-12" kickers. kicker because it don't reqiure a lot of air space. I also was thinking about a custom box at the middle counsel in the front seat, not the one that rises but the one that stays stationary, i'm thinkingthat a 12" will be good there. I'm not settling with a 8" or a 10" because thats like settling with 6"x9". Well thats my thought. If i can't put a 12" into my truck I will forget it and sell the truck and get me something with more room space more my system.

I have a 2001 dodge dakota and I put 2 10" MBQuartz speakers under the back seat it is pretty spendy($900.00) but well worth it they take out the hole underneath of you back seat(what the seat rest on ) and replace it with the exact same thing only it is plastic. you still have the rear cup holders and a spot for the jack. Your amp and both 10's are underneath the back seat. Not even noticeable, unless you are the one in the back . the seat does lift a little in the front' like it's not completely down but that is for the air. I Love my quartz's!
