yeah i want to buy those flamed faced gauges but the needles are holding me back. they seem very delicate and i don't just want to rip them off unless i have to. can someone please tell me what i have to do in order to replace the face of my dashboard? I can easly unscrew the dash and get to the face but ripping off the needles doesnt seem like the right thing to do.

I didnt have any problem with my gauge replacement. It was fairly easy to do. Just remember to mark where the needles are when your truck is idle, that way you can put them back on in the correct place (i took a digital pic instrad of drawing out everything).

The flame-face gauge kits from Nu Image include a tool that slips your needles off.

Fire up your truck and let it idle until the needles stabilize, then mark the positions on a piece of paper or take a picture of it like above.

Remove the gauge cluster, and slip the needles off with the removal tool - really easy to do. Take the old gauge face off, put the new gauge face on, and then slip the needles down onto the pegs - make sure you slip the needles on carefully as it's really easy to twist the peg during installation which can make it point in the wrong direction. Put your dash back together but leave the gauge cluster exposed so you can make changes on the fly before sealing it back up for good.

my flamed guages never came with a tool. i had to use a screwdriver to get mine off.

just to let you know, the flame guages make the needles hard to see at night. they blend in with the flames. i sold mine, and got the NR white guages, and i am VERRY impressed with them.

i just installed the nu image platium series guages and i was kinda scared to just rip off the plastic dash piece cause i didnt want it to break but that went ok .. but i didnt really understand why you had to put the needles where they were at idle.. why couldnt you just put them at the lowest point when the truck was off??.. but oh well i did the idle one anyway.. but the only thing that was a pain to do was transfering the foam from the original gauge to the new one.. i would have gladly paid like 10 extra dollars if it would have came with them on it ...but i got it done and it looks awsome.. oh and it came with a tool to slide the needles off.. very easy

great! thanks for the help. hey sin, did you make that aluminium trim or was that part of the package. and with the white-faced gauges, how do you know where you "redline" at? i would kinda like to see where the "safe rpms" are at, just for extra precaution. oh yeah when i experimented with the gauges, i took off the whole gauge cluster to remove that retarded "economic" shift light. i didnt see any reason to mark where the needles are at idle. i think they reset anyway because they are spring-loaded. i dont know, ill do it anyway because i want it done right the first time

I used a regular kitchen fork to get my needles out. It worked exceptionally well.

I'm really a doofus. I hooked up my new battery backwards! With the battery in correctly, the '98 Durango starts and everything works properly except the entire dash and radio. The AIRBAG light blinks and the gauges' needles hop, the led odometer blinks. Have I completely ruined the electronics?
