Message: Powder coating has to be done in an electrostatic environment. Have to put a charge in to the wheel with an oposite charge coming from the gun/powder. Then, the wheel has to be baked at a specified temp and time to convert powder to a solid coating.

Message: Eastwood (www.eastwoodcompany.com)sell two powdercoating kits one is the original and the pro. The original is $184.99 and the pro is $799.00. Then you would still have to find an oven or buy an infrared curing system. I have the original its a good buy for the money. It would be pretty hard to do your wheels yourself because you would have to find something as big as a wheel to cure it in. Also Harbor Freight sells a powder coating system too. It is a little cheaper in price and just as good in quality. I have done some parts on my engine and exterior and had great results. In conclusion I would say leave the wheels to the pros though.

Message: Look in the Yellow Pages for a powder coater.
Painting component parts just isn't done much anymore. Almost all automotive items that used to be painted are now powdered as well as normal household items.
If their is any type of manufacturing around your area you'll find someone who provides Powder Coating.
What makes it so good is the heat curing!

Message: clam bake? lol. no, I had a 2001 Motorsports Edition Dak with the black rims. looks sweet, but i was thinking about switching over to the rt rims, and having them powder coated black. but, no one around here (in ct) does it. But, if they make the kit, I can bake them at work, you know at what temp, and for how long? We have a small heat treat area in part of the show (for tempering balls), and would prob. work perfectly.

Message: You also might want to call around and ask about anodizing. I had some Porsche wheels that were originally black, re-anodized in a gold color. I can't remember the price, but they weren't too bad and turned out great.
