Message: hey guys-
i'm a 23 year old VA girl. i love trucks & i'm an artist. so, since i got a new dakota, i want to treat it like a piece of art. i have a few ideas of how to personalize my new baby, but there are a few things i don't know much about.
for one- i'm interested in taking off the decals on the outside of my truck. how do i do that without ruining it?
also, i want the billet style dash kit, but i can't seem to find one for a 2002 Dakota Sport. i'm a little experienced with metal fabrication. would it be somewhat easy to fabricate my own kit out of sheet metal & a clear coat?
thanks for your help

Message: Go to a place that does pin stripes or even a body shop. My brother had his R/T decals removed. The guy charged him $15 and it only took him about 15 min. You would never know they were there.
By the way where in VA are you from ? I live in Fredericksburg.

Message: I removed the decals from my '02 a few weeks ago. Park it in the sun & let it warm up the glue. The decals peel right off. Then use some 3-M adhesive & decal remover to remove the glue (available at Wal Mart in the automotive section where the spray paint is). Then wash & wax it. My truck looks 100 times better without the decals on it!

Message: You can use a hairdryer and your fingernail. If there is any goo left you can use regular gasoline on a soft cloth to get it off.. Then wash and wax your new baby.
What color and style did you get?

Message: Hurm.. never thought about that.. I've always used it on my windows to get those stickers off.. Never thought about the gas on the clear coat. It should be fine though.. But now that you mention it I wouldn't try it on my truck. That 3-M stuff should work great just alittle harder to come by then gas.

Message: I used the old hairdryer and some bug and tar remover that is meant to put on your truck so it worked great. But I do agree with everyone else when they say to wax it. Oh, and don't wait a long time to do it, the paint will start to change shades a bit.
Good Luck!

Message: Peel the Stickers like everyone else said, and then if theres still goo use a little WD-40 on a rag, and then rub gently. If you want to spend some money doing it or you plan on having LOTS of decals to remove, go to a shop that does decals and buy a can of adhesive solvent, $10 CDN (cheaper for you people in the states). It works the same way as WD-40 but its a little stronger and still wont hurt your paint.

Message: I did the hair dryer/bug & tar remover method about 9 months ago on my R/T and it worked great.
Unfortunately there is a drastic shortage of interior billet products for the Dodge Dakota. You can get billet door sills, billet rearview mirrors, a billet gauge overlay for 1997-2000's, the rest is all generic stuff like billet cigarette lighters, billet steering wheels, etc.
Companies like Empire Motor Sports, Billet Specialties, Billet Superstore, etc. have virtually completely ignored the Dodge Dakota.
You can get a simulated brushed aluminum dash kit for all 1997-2002 Dakotas or Durangos - this would be the closest thing to what you're looking for. I haven't seen one in person to know for sure how they look but I haven't heard any negative comments from people who have bought them. One of these days I'll probably buy one of them to go with my silver R/T.
A number of companies sell these dash kits, I have links to a few companies on my website under the aftermarket accessories:dash kits page.
Make sure you order the right model year, and look at the templates to verify the shapes match your truck... 1997-2000's are different from 2001-2002's, and most dash kit resellers haven't figured that out yet... E-Bay is full of kits that say 1997-2002 but they're really only 1997-2000.

Message: Children, Children. Must we fight like this, all of us true R/T owners know that S-10's are just one more vehicle to be spanked on the road. Personally, Danny, if you think that your S-10 is the $hit, that go toot your own F*ck*ng horn somewhere where someone might give a rat's ass. As for the decals, everyone hear seems to have it covered, that same technique with the 3-M stuff worked well on my R/T. Hope it turns out nice for you.

Message: funny how the topic changed suddenly.
The only complant that I have about s-10s is that you can just about do anything customwise easier than a dak. Then again... all my club buddies say they would rather have a dak than a s-10 cause there "mini trucks on steroids!". It doesn't matter to me. The car of my dreams is a grimlin on 44s cause I just gotta be .... THAT GUY:)
Lkidd .... you thinkin about making a cover by hand or machine? I'm almost positive I thought I saw a kit out there somewhere
Nood1z.... a real beast is a turbo'd old beetle on stock suspention..... just plain scary.

Message: The only reason a stock dakota might beat a stock s10 IN A STRAIGHT LINE RACE is because chevy has so many other vehicles that they make for power (i.e. the vette, which kicks the 10cyl viper's ass in almost every stat/head-to-head category there is). The s10 is tuned way down for the maker's overall emissions quotas/standards, but a few quick little mods here and there and an s10 like mine won't be beat by any damn dodge dakota short of the 5.9L.

Message: here is a great little product for those still reading this old post. I just debadged my 92 dak. It had that damn stainless trim with alot of adhesive and goo gone and heat gun(not hairdryer) was not enough. The autobody supply shops should have a little wheel about 3 1/2 " by 3/4" thick made of eraser. it doesn't sccratch the paint and it doesn't hurt the fingers. The package says go fast and light pressure but slow and hard pressure (1000rpm) work alot better and save the wheel. They are about $12 and work great. then wax and polish. As for the s-10 issue. my friend is getting rid of his s-10 to get a dak because of the power weight ratio of a dakota cannot be beat by any v6 s-10 or ranger, tacoma, or even a frontier. sorry threw in the last one for a JOKE.
