Subject: New to sight - Nerf bars IP: Logged
Message: Hello all,
I am picking up my new Dakota QC SLT 4.7 4X4 tonight. Can't wait. Finally getting rid of this Ford Explorer. My truck was ordered because of the leather interior option I wanted. Only took 3 weeks.
I am writing because I have been reading about the Nerf bars. I have already ordered the Westin CPS Platinum Nerf bars. (Chrome/Stainless Steel) lifetime warranty. I ordered them thru www.autoconnect.com. Were $369.00 minus $35.00 rebate. So I got them for $334.00. About the same as for the regular chrome ones on other sights. Hope this helps all.
Can't wait to get my Swiss Tonneau cover, Husky floor mats, Bug delector and Mud guards.
This sight is great to get useful information. Hope my post save some of you money.
Steve W.

Message: I installed the same bars on my QC. Suggest you leave out the support bracket that comes with bars. This allows bars to mount a little closer to the chassis; which looks nicer.

Message: Thanks for the advice. I have read on some other posts about leaving the brackets off as well, so your post only convinces me even more.
thanks

Message: Ok.. I have looked at the Westin bars, however since the "Platinum Series" is essentially Chromed Stainless Steel... wouldn't the chrome wear off over time?
I was thinking about getting some Polished 304 Stainless Steel Bars...like the ones from MAAP. Anyone have any opinion on those?

Message: Why should it. Decent chrome plating should last as long as the truck. It's not as if there is significant mechanic wear/abrasion to worry about.
Stainless steel bars are great, but can discolor over time. That's the only reason I went with Westin's platinum.

Message: take it from an old tool and die maker Chrome is not that hard and yes it will wear off over time, especially if you use it as a step and the dirt on the buttom of your shoe gets to act like sandpaper.

Message: Agree. However, the Westin bars (like most others) have 'plastic' steps protecting the chromed bars.
On the other hand, if the chrome ever does wear off, I'm glad it's SS underneath.

Message: The lifetime warranty covers the finish. That was the reason that I decided to spend the extra money on the SS. I Just didn't want to have rusky nerb bars on the side of my truck.
I have to be honest, other that when I wash the truck, I don't think I will use the step at all. The Dakota 4X4 isn't that high off the ground. I just wanted the steps for the look. Call me crazy

Message: Crazy? - Not at all. I remember when my wife asked if steps would make it easier for our 6 year old daughter to step up into the truck. What a perfect excuse for getting the bars. Truthfully - I wanted them mostly for looks; but my daughter DOES use them ;-)

Message: Now I am frustrated...
I looked into the "Westin Platinum Series" Nerf bars... and I found out that they only carry these for the 2001 Quad Cab version of the Dakota.
For all others, we are stuck with the regular Chrome and Black finishes.
Now don't that just SUCK! I know that the QC is the "new" truck on the block, but geez... how many regular and club cabs are running around?
I guess they don't want our business on those huh?

Message: Hey Tom...
Did you call them up and find out what "brand" they are? Also, do they come with any kind of warranty?
Before I plop down 300 bones, I really would like to know the answers to those questions.

Message: Nope... I haven't gotten any nerf bars yet...
For now, I've stopped looking... since other things have grabbed the attention of my wallet :)
I might pick up "Dakota Upgrade Fever" again sometime later in the year.

Message: Mopar probably has some, check their website. Prices are usually decent for most mopar "bolt-ons" and they fit the way they should if you can afford it.

Message: You can find running boards on dodgeparts.com. I think they have nerf bars too (I like the look of nerf bars better my self, but to each his own).
