Thats what I'm looking for! I hate those Altezza ones with the big red spot for the brake light...looks pretty crappy to me....I'd like to have totally clear ones like they got for the full-size chevy's.....
All I've been able to find are those APC Altezza style ones...

I heard that they are legal unless you change the red brake bulbs. Other than that I see no reason why they would be illegal. Altezza's look to honda civic rice boy anyways.

go to stillen.com or go to sportruck.com and look under they online shopping. you can get them almost everywhere. The clear tailights are illegal no matter what you do to them. You may get off without a ticket but thats all luck. If you have any questions just e-mail me. i know alot about parts and wheels for dakotas since i've bought and redone my 98 dakota many times

What about in Canada? Are those totally clear lenses illegal up here? I have seen all kinds of neons and S(hit)-10s with the totally clear and they have red bulbs in them.....
If they came up with a different design for the red reflector part...maybe....they could make it a Ram head...like the taillight covers...heh heh...just an idea.. :0)

I've found the Ontario Highway Traffic Act on the net and I've found an interesting paragrash
(1) When on a highway at any time from one-half hour before sunset to one-half hour after sunrise and at any other time when, due to insufficient light or unfavourable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles on the highway are not clearly discernible at a distance of 150 metres or less, every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle shall carry three lighted lamps in a conspicuous position, one on each side of the front of the vehicle which shall display a white or amber light only, and one on the rear of the vehicle which shall display a red light only.
Doesn't sound good to me....but I'm sure there are ways around it. :0)

You could possibly get around a ticket but I wouldn't try it because it may posibly be a waste of money for the lights. If the lights don't end up working out you can candy coat the lights red in certain areas or the whole lense. It looks different but really clean. Most paint shops will do this for you. Good luck.

you wont find them new from any company. They stopped making them cause they are not dot approved. Took me forever to find a set for mine. best bet is E-bay or someone around here might have a set

I think the rationale behind red vs. clear(or white) is that if you see white lights on a vehicle it means the vehicles is moving forward (or towards you). If you red lights then the vehicle is moving away from you. Don't quote me but I think that is the logic behind DOT approved. Just food for thought.

I used to have some on my toyota p/u and they cops gave me some trouble...i found out that there must be red reflectors on the rear and side/rear of a truck and there cannot be any white reflectors.

I'm just trying to explain for safety reasons that if you see, at night, two white lights, illuminated, (headlights or backup lights, the two little white strips on the bottom of the tail lights) then the vehicle should be heading towards you. If you see two red tail lights, lit, then you know the vehicle is going away.
In any case, if you are still interested in clears check yahoo shopping. I saw someone selling discontinued clears for about $90.00. Enjoy.
