Subject: New Cervini's Sniper Kit IP: Logged
Message: Has anybody purchased the new Cervini's Sniper kit for the 97-present Daks? If so do you have any pics? I would like to see these pieces on a truck before I purchase them. Cervini's makes top notch products, but I've never seen these on a Dodge before. If you haven't seen the kit, pick up this months edition of Street Trucks magazine... It looks badass.
Thanks

Message: Ram air.. Basics on it is simply shoves air into your intake.. Thats pretty much it.. Oh and the air is probably gonna be a little bit cooler seeing as it is beeing pushed in right from outside.

Message: Guys.. Ram Air means just that.. ramming air, or actually building boost or psi do to a high pressure area based on speed and cross-sectional entrance area (of coarse subtract for drag). Ive seen LOTS of these hoods and have NEVER seen any performance numbers on them.. or for that matter flow data.. IF anyone has one or is going to order one see if you can get them to give you a dyno, flow data chart, etc that proves that it works..

Message: it doesnt give much more power especially the way they're designed and how the air tunnelling is designed. thats why on race cars, that have ram air, its way up in the air so theirs a mass ammount of air hitting it, not just little bits. also having a ram air hood gives terrible mpg because of the airsensor having to constantly readjust it gives different air/fuel mixtures and totally messes up your gauging.

Message: "also having a ram air hood gives terrible mpg because of the airsensor having to constantly readjust it gives different air/fuel mixtures and totally messes up your gauging"
Terrible MPG by ramair? Everybit of testing we have done shows increased HP, TQ, and MPG. Where exactly is this airsensor that you speak about on the Dakota? You have a gauge for you air / fuel mixture? Is that a plotted gauge of air vs fuel or is it fuel vs air?
"it doesnt give much more power especially the way they're designed and how the air tunnelling is designed"
Ill agree with this on the Cervini's hoods.. from what I have seen they dont have a smooth curved inlet and direct the air to the stock airbox.. which pretty much kills the whole idea.
On the other hand RamAir when done correctly is a GREAT addition, and can add a nice cold air channel when stopped, and when moving can actually build boost, and at higher speeds really give you some great HP, TQ, and MPG gains..
For example.. the GTS style hood.. uses these principals and we have flow data to back it all up.
O.. and I was just playing around with the quotes so dont take it personally.

Message: Well as far as functionality goes.. and excluding the GTS.. Id have to say the Shaker is your best bet.. Its a classic, tried and proven, design. Keystone also has a hood that should prove functional.. The main key is that the airfow go directly to the TB and not make turns, when you direct air around curves you loose most of what you are trying to gain, and when you simply pipe it to the stock aibox then it still has to go all the way back to the TB you loose almost everything.
If you have any pictures of the hood your talking about send them to me and ill check it out.. I think on of the hoods Keystone makes was designed by Terry Delong (maker of the shaker hood) and it should function well.

Message: Guys, I have an AAR ram air hood. While it looks great-sorta like the challanger hoods from the 60's, the so-called "ram air" effect is just not there! The underhood piping is crap and it just feeds into a stock type fiberglass box so you still have all the restrictions of the stock designs! Get the hood for looks, but forget all the extra cost underhood piping and plumbing.Leave the cut-outs intact and get a true cold air intake like the Intense Performance stage III kit with the intake hose behind the grill next to the rad. support.I bought and tested the IP stage III myself and it keeps the incoming air within 2 degrees of ambient outside air. This is as measured at the throttle blades with a Fluke meter and temp. probe accessory.Thats pretty good.Of course you have to be moving forward. At idle, the air heats up pretty good but cools down in less that 10 seconds once you start moving.

kit the less I like it. Is it just me or does the
front bumper look like its jutting out? I think the
westwings or Xenon kits look better on the
dakota. More truck like. Guess I'll just have to
wait and see what it looks like on an actual
