Subject: Painted Handles??? IP: Logged
Message: I just want to know if any one has painted
stock door handles and mirrors to match there
truck. Im getting a Roll Pan painted and have
stopped in a few paint shops and they have
told me that the paint is most likely not going
to stick to the handles. I called dodge and
they said thats the only hadles they make. Im
not sure if i should try and paint them or
search for some aftermarket handles. Any
suggestions would help. Thanks

Message: Dakota657,
I had the front and rear lower bumpers as well as an "eBay'd" grille painted at my local Dodge dealer's paint shop.
They sanded down the texture and shot everything in factory Patriot Blue Pearl. I removed the parts, and the total cost (not including the purchase of the 2nd grille) was $120.
I paid less for the grille than I sold the SLT chrome grille for, so the total cost to me was $90.00.
Oh, yeah... make that $95.99....
$5.99 for the chrome "body-side molding" that I used inside the grille openings.

Message: thanks for the kind comments guys!
well, my mirrors are street scene mirrors, and when i painted my door handles, i painted my roof rails, molded my rollpan to the bed and painted it, shaved the holes for my front licenc plate, and repainted the front bumper and valance.
total cost was $600
as far as prepping, from what i remember, they used a thick primer, and painted them. they told me all of the details of what works and what dosnt, but i forgot most of what they said. i was too busy looking at my truck ;-)
it really makes a differance

Message: I am puttin my truck in the shop hopefully next week. A dog hit me in the side and put a 400$ dent in m driverside door!!!!(stupid dogs!!) Anyways since its gunna be there i am having my back bumper, door handles, taligate handle , mirrors, and the window molding on top of the truck all painted(i already have my front bumper and grill inserts painted). The guy i am goin to said the main thing was he to use plastic primer when painting these items. If thats not used then the paint will chip off easyily. I think i am gunna have to pay like 200$ to get all that done. That doesnt include the 400$ dog dent(which the insurance is picking up the tab on it)

Message: Hey guys it's no big deal to paint your handles with a low buck color matched rattle can. If your fortunate enough to live in a city on an atlas your automotive paint store can take your paint code and mix up a pint of paint and put it into an aresol can. If you have the blue or copper metalics your color match won't be perfect, but red, white , yellow or black are very do-able. First step is to pull your door panel and then the 10mm bolts that hold on the handle. Remove the c-clip that holds the lock cylinder and remove it. After removing the handle buy the maroon 3M scuff pad and sand the plastic until it all looks grey. Take wax and grease remover and wipe it with a clean cloth a few times. Buy a $10 aresol can of sandable primer (no K-MART stuff-try Sherwan Williams grey) and apply 3 light coats. Let dry a hour and scuff again with the scotch brite pad but be careful not to sand through the primer (if you do repeat the primer). Wipe down with a fresh cloth of wax and grease remover and allow to dry. Dust the part lightly with your color match paint and allow to dry ten minutes. Repeat 3-4 times until the part is fully covered. Allow to dry a day and if needed you can wet color sand with 2000 grit to remove any dust or minor oppsies and polish out with compound. This will also work on the mirrors, just mask the glass first. Whole project under $50 bucks... Good luck !!!! (Sorry rollpans and bumper covers require a paint gun- but remember NO GUTS>>NO GLORY!!!)
