Message: D- Probably not much help but, The badge itself has two metal studs sticking out the back. They are only for guides to get it on there straight, they don't lock down or anything. What holds it on is a 3M adhesive'ish backing,,,like a sticker. I'm putting one 'ON' my truck,,never took one off,,,,but I think you could just gently pry it off w/a little 'love'.

Message: You may want to try a heat gun to loosen up the adhesive...bug & tar remover stuff or Goof Off (this will take off the wax, also) to remove any leftover adhesive. Hope that helps.
Tell me more about this Viper emblem you're planing on using...Is that the hood badge? Thanks!

Message: I'm gonna take a trip to the dealer and
measure the viper emblem (hopefully they
wont get mad) ....there are a couple for sale
on ebay, but I would like a black one (only
have blue or red on ebay) I think if it fits, it
would be worth the $40 or $50 they charge.

Message: I though of this idea a while ago when i bought a couple of Viper keys on EBAY but my girlfriend dismissed the idea as "RICEY" ahhhh the mere thought of that makes me cringe. She made it seem as if i wanted to put "3.9L TYPE R" or something. still think it would be sweet. There is also a company that sells lighted hood emblems i think about $35. It looks like an "indiglo" type of illumination

Message: The Viper emblem doesn't fit perfect into the existing Dakota hood, but it's close enough for government work! Center it as best you can, even spacing all the way around. Unless you own a Dak, most people will never know. It looks like it belongs there. Here's a pic.

Message: Why laugh at other people's ideas? Come on... do what makes you happy, and let other people do what makes THEM happy. It's not your vehicle, so don't worry about it. Who cares who thinks it's tacky or riced? Your vehicle is YOURS so do what you want with it and who cares what anyone else says. I say go for the old style ram head if you want to do it. And the Viper emblem is cool too.

I personally like the idea! I think it is cool! and I agree that you should do what you want to your OWN truck that makes you happy.

Message: I totally agree on adding the older 3-D hood ornament to the Dak. However, I plan on painting it flat black and drilling out the eyes to install red LEDs.
The question is, how easy would it be to install. Didn't look like there was an easy way to bolt it in, and I don't trust adhesive to keep the ornament in place.

Message: Part of the reason they don't put those kind of hood ornaments on vehicles these days is because of how easy they are to steal. The less for a teenage punk to grab onto and yank, the better. Good luck with that. In my honest opinion, I don't think it'd look good at all on a Dakota. Although, it's not as bad as people putting R/T or Viper emblems on their trucks. I think of that as Redneck Rice. =)

Message: Uhhhh, the viper symbol on a dakota? Way cool idea! I've been trying to come with a way to 86 the ram emblem on my 98...the best I came up with? Maybe finding a metal-shop that would fabricate the `exact` shape of the emblem in a brushed metal finish (or chrome). I was gonna take it further and have the ram engraved back into the new plain emblem, but I wasn't sure I liked this idea. Anyway, I have a friend at a dodge/chrysler dealership, bet I can get the viper symbol at cost. Which idea is better?
