I have a 99 slt cc and i was wondering if it is possible to paint the front and rear bumpers as well as the front grill. maybe by removing the chrome plating or something. or would it just be cheeper to buy a new grill and front bumper and get a roll pan for the rear. Thanks for the input

I was told by someone else on here that had the bumpers painted that it came out good. He has a pic somewhere on here. For the front grill you could pick up a stock looking one off ebay for pretty cheap. I would not mess with the chrome one.

Hi,

I painted the gray parts on both bumpers to match the body and it looks great with the chrome grille and bumper. Why do you want to paint over the chrome?

I believe he is looking for the sport look. Try the salvage yards and just buy the bumpers from a sport model, also you could put a roll pan in the rear and just do away with the rear bumper.

The roll pan is a great idea. I really like the ones with the exhaust cut outs.

The reason i want to paint the bumpers is exactly what QUADMAN said, the sport look. IMO the sports look the best. That grey on the truck just looks cheap. thanks for the info.

For chrome bumpers Scuff up the bumper, primer it, and paint it. It paints like any other surface.

I went a different route in that I bought a one piece bumper valence cover and roll pan:

I took my bumper parts and the new visor to a local shop and had them squirt them for me. He did a pretty good job on them, a little light sanding, a little flex additive in the paint and I was good to go for only $200. There is still most of the pebble grain on the plastic and it shines really nice. The pick in my profile isn't a very good one. When the weather clears a little more, I'm going to post better pics with the new tires and wheels.

Are you talkn' about the black plastic part of the bumpers?

If so, Mothers makes a product called "Back-to-Black" just for those parts. I've used it on a previous Bonneville SSE with great results.

Check it out, mothers.com under special care. You can pick it up in any Pep-boys/Auto-zone type of place.

James is right that should do the trick, as far as the fender wells go I always spray the armor all foam type under all of them after I wash my truck. It keeps them clean and black.

I agree with Quadman on the wheelwell, either the armour-all trick, or any of the tires foams will work too.

I tried painting the wells on my other trucks and I was never really happy with the results. I ended up tire foaming them before shows.
